And, we all need support! I use Internal
Family Systems
(
IFS
), drama therapy, and a relational approach to support you to get to know all parts of yourself, release what is no longer serving you, and find more ease, balance, and aliveness.
Are you feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, and stressed? Have you been through a lot and no matter how much you try and focus on right now it feels like your past is still with you every day? Our experiences are an important part of who we are, but sometimes intense and ongoing experiences get stuck in our nervous system and it can feel hard to know peace. I support people who have experienced challenging and overwhelming things create more space, connectedness, and self compassion; to release what is no longer serving you, so that you can feel like the leader in your own life, and show up fully for yourself and your loved ones.

With individuals, I primarily use the Internal
Family Systems
(
IFS
) model to help people explore and bring healing to their personal experiences.
I work with adult individuals and couples from the Attachment Theory and evidence-based modalities of Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) and the Internal
Family Systems
(
IFS
) model. Couples can develop patterns of interacting that lead to frustrating arguments, immovable conflict and painful disconnection from each other. I help couples calm the fighting, move from stuck places, and shift those negative patterns into secure and loving connection. With couples, I work primarily from the evidence-based model of Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT)

Many people seeking psychotherapy are engaged in experiences of personal growth, career development, and efforts to be better partners, sons, daughters, parents and friends. Yet each of us must decide what constitutes progress in our own way. I have learned that the road to satisfaction in interpersonal and professional endeavors takes willingness to accept our own and others' imperfections, and the courage to take some risks. For those who want to make change, hard work and practice are necessary. Even if you have tried psychotherapy in the past, you may benefit from newer approaches. If this resonates, let's talk.

Often I work with individuals and couples that feel stuck. Stuck in their energy and going through the motions. Stuck in their meaning, deeply desiring a sense of purpose but not quite “having one.” Stuck in their relationships and unsure how to communicate. I try not to view symptoms as pathological, instead listening and letting them inform healing. From my perspective, symptoms are non-verbal guides to give us clues into what you may need. Pivoting away from self-punishment to co-existing with all the parts of one’s self.

Psychotherapy is about change. I work grounded in the belief that we have innate resources for thriving and ease that become concealed or underdeveloped. It is my role to help you understand your fundamental needs, history and challenges so you can realign with your strengths and wisdom; while uncovering whats blocking these resources. I work in a straightforward, compassionate and collaborative way to help you integrate thinking, feeling and intuition. The focus of my style is helping you become more confident and knowledgeable about yourself, your mind and relationships; while offering you the tools and guidance to do that.

By the time most couples come to my office, they're frustrated, discouraged, and tired of going in circles. Many think their problems are insurmountable, that they're beyond help. Very few couples are beyond help. If your relationship is in trouble, don't wait. And don't give up.
I have been in practice for nearly 30 years, specializing in psychotherapy with couples. I bring extensive training in relationship dynamics, marital systems, and sex therapy. I use a collaborative, positive approach that makes sense of what's hard and offers tools and encouragement to even the most troubled relationship.

Difficult times in relationships can often be gifts in that they open the door to a deeper exploration of ourselves and those closest to us. Seen in this light, therapy can be a step towards mutual evolution, rather than just a problem-solving endeavor.
I work well with couples and families, helping to create a safe , trusting atmosphere where people can get more in touch with their feelings and express them to others close to them.I also work with individuals who have relationship issues.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists
What is Internal Family Systems therapy?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.
How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.
Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.
How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
