I offer therapy sessions in-person and online via video on Mondays and Wednesdays at my office in Albany.
I am committed to guiding my clients toward a deeper experience and understanding of themselves and their lives. I assist with the unfolding of their own natural processes of change and growth and work to foster a sense of self-acceptance and curiosity as they begin to open up to themselves more and more. In this process of opening up, great distress and pain often accompany possibilities for connection and joy. Therefore, I find it crucial to help clients befriend the difficult places inside of themselves in the service of developing a sense of wholeness and integration.

The discomfort of facing life's challenges may set off an impulse to hide. We may turn our backs on ourselves through isolation, sleep, or running away into busyness or substances to take our minds off "the problem." Yet these discomforts are quite often our body's way of trying to get our attention, telling us that it's time to look at something we have put away for too long and that is now ready to come into the light. Like martial artists, our movement toward the thing we fear allows the energy to shift and lighten.

I offer in-person therapy in Albany and also offer therapy via Zoom to best accommodate your scheduling and convenience needs.
You’re outwardly capable, successful, and resilient—but inside you’re exhausted by the chronic anxiety, harsh self-criticism, and unfulfilling relationship patterns that have shaped your life for years. Most of my clients are high-functioning adults who’ve done therapy before and are ready for deeper, lasting change—not just coping. Through our work together you can finally release old conditioning, experience self-trust and self-confidence as your core, and build relationships and a life rich with meaning, security, intimacy, and joy! Because you are ready to thrive in all the most important ways.

I work in person in Albany/Berkeley (in my green and spacious office) and virtually in CA.
If you've tried everything for your chronic pain, try therapy with me. Once the brain starts anticipating pain, it becomes hypervigilant and amplifies pain signals. The first one or two sessions are an assessment of your pain to determine which aspects of your pain are structural vs nervous system-related. After that, it's about helping you make friends with your own brain's fear response around pain so that your brain can feel more grounded in safety and start forming new pathways. For some of us, deeper trauma work is required to help re-regulate the nervous system. I am skilled in this area as well.

I have twenty one years experience as a clinician and have been licensed for the past 17 years. I enjoy working with a broad range of clients, but focus on individual work with adults. I work collaboratively with clients to clarify what they want to get out of therapy and then work towards those goals with compassion, creativity, and a large tool box.

Welcome! Note: email is the best way reach me. Finding a therapist is daunting. The relationship tends to be the most consistent factor in whether therapy is successful, so I encourage you to trust your intuition. I work with adults (not couples) and adolescents over 14 on a variety of issues, including achieving greater mood stability, identity issues, improved relationships and sexuality, and recovery from trauma. I have experience working effectively with people who identify as trans, genderqueer, and those with diverse lifestyles. I also offer ketamine-assisted psychotherapy in collaboration w/Journey Clinical.

While it can be intimidating to think about beginning therapy, it’s my hope that my warm and collaborative style of engaging with you will offer some ease in initiating our work together. Having dedicated space for understanding and learning about you by speaking can feel relieving, and starts with a good amount of courage in your initial reaching out. In our work together, I will carefully listen to you while building a collaborative relationship based in warm curiosity, offering you my thoughts and connections related to the barriers that may be holding you back from moving towards your known and yet-to-be-known goals.

Everyone goes through challenging situations in life, and while you may have successfully navigated through other difficulties you've faced, there's nothing wrong with seeking out extra support when you need it. My approach is to be warm and deeply interested in both your struggles and your strengths. I work with clients who wish to understand and shift their anxiety, depression, self-criticism, and relationship difficulties. I particularly enjoy working with clients who carry marginalized identities including women, queer, trans, and POC clients. Central to my approach is the belief that cultural and environmental factors deeply play a role in our development.

Would you like to know yourself better and more deeply? To be able to move beyond painful or frustrating patterns in your feelings, relationships, and work? Sometimes it's clear why we feel and act how we do: ecstatic about a new romance, upset about a professional disappointment, awash with grief following the loss of a loved one. Other times your feelings and behaviors may surprise you—a nagging anxiety, a lingering sadness, memories of past experiences that you thought you'd left behind, a sense that your relationship with a partner could be deeper, or that work could be more fulfilling even as you have success along the way.

I imagine life is feeling harder than it should. Perhaps you're overwhelmed, stuck in old patterns, or reacting strongly to small things and don’t know why. Maybe you are feeling anxious, numb, or constantly on edge. Or maybe you are dealing with past experiences that keep interrupting your life. You are not alone. Even though it can sometimes feel hopeless or far off, there is a path forward to start healing the root of these challenges, carry less tension, and feel more safe and present in your life. You deserve a compassionate space where you can be seen, understood, and supported as you seek relief and wholeness.

I offer virtual therapy Monday - Thursday and in-person therapy in Albany on Thursday evenings and Friday mornings.
You may appear to be doing well on the outside, but inside, you feel anxious, low, or disconnected. You might struggle to understand yourself, feel stuck in familiar patterns, or find relationships and partnering difficult. You’re thoughtful, values-driven, and somewhat spiritual, yet unsure how to feel grounded or fulfilled. You want more than coping skills, you want clarity, emotional connection, and a way to feel more present and engaged in your life.

Well, hello and thank you for taking the time to check my profile. I believe that life presents challenges to everyone regardless of culture, language, creed or personal strength. Often, there is a need for support to initiate corrections, change direction or even just for clarification of issues that manifest in the present moment. Challenge is also an opportunity. With the right approach, therapy may prove to be an effective tool. Our relationship would be dynamic and custom geared to validate, understand and address any issues of import to you as human being. Your life is unique, priceless and worthy of respect.

Trying to resolve issues in our life can be difficult and serious work but usually worth all the effort and time. These changes may come from sustained effort, learning from past failure, exploring detours, walking in faith, fostering patience to allow change to happen to us, addressing chemical imbalances, and many other factors. Many, perhaps most times in our lives, we can make these changes through our own efforts or help from our friends or family. Sometimes we may need help from professional guidance to help make sense of or add to all of these efforts.

I have always found the more relational and emotionally based this work is then the more rewarding and successful it is for clients and myself. I work with a wide range of clients. Their basic desire is to connect with themselves and others. Of late, it seems, many of my clients are couples; men ; adolescents; and mid-life and elderly of both sexes. Each are addressing important problems and/or transitional stages of life. Our work can be fearful and/or fearless, exciting and/or slow and always the challenge of facing not-knowing, making choices and exploring ourselves.

I currently see California based clients in-person or online and I see New York based clients online.
My approach is warm, collaborative, and direct. I try to be calm and patient. I'm active in session, I don't "just sit there." I believe you are the expert on your own experience. I'm here to look for patterns and offer ideas that can help. I specialize in long term depth work, but I also do more focused or goal directed work. Ask me for what you need.

FAQ - About In Person Therapy
What are the benefits of in-person therapy?
In-person therapy offers several benefits that some people find highly valuable for their mental health treatment. Being present in the same room as your therapist can create a stronger sense of connection and allow for more nuanced communication through body language. Some people may also find it easier to focus in therapy when they are in a dedicated space and away from potential distractions related to home or work; attending an in-person session provides a clear boundary between therapy time and the rest of your life. For certain therapeutic approaches, such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), exposure therapy, or somatic therapy, being in person may be particularly important, as these therapies benefit from the therapist being able to observe and respond to a client’s physical cues effectively. Additionally, some individuals simply feel more comfortable discussing sensitive or painful topics when they are face-to-face with their therapist rather than on a screen.

When should I choose in-person therapy over online therapy?
In-person therapy may be a better choice when you need a structured therapeutic environment separate from your daily life, when you find it difficult to focus or feel comfortable in an online setting, or when privacy at home is a concern. It may also be more appropriate if you are dealing with severe mental health symptoms that require close monitoring or if your therapy involves approaches that rely heavily on observing physical cues. On the other hand, if convenience, scheduling flexibility, or access to specialists outside your immediate area are priorities, online therapy may be a better fit. Many therapists offer both options, so you can also discuss with a provider which format might work best for your specific situation.

How do I find an in-person therapist?
You can use Psychology Today's therapist directory to find an in-person therapist in your area. You can search by location, insurance accepted, specialty areas, therapeutic approaches, and other criteria to narrow down providers who meet your needs. Each therapist profile includes information about their credentials, areas of expertise, and whether they offer in-person sessions. Once you have identified potential therapists, you can contact them directly through the directory to schedule an initial consultation and determine whether they are a good fit before committing to ongoing treatment. When reaching out, it can be helpful to confirm their availability for in-person appointments, their office location, and whether they accept your insurance.
