If you or your child are having trouble in relationships, feeling consistently down or anxious, or finding yourself stuck in painful past experiences, therapy can help identify patterns that don’t serve you and build practices that enable you to thrive
I am a strengths-based, trauma-informed psychologist with a commitment to social justice and cultural humility. While the heart of my approach is attachment-based and psychodynamic, I regularly incorporate ideas from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and mindfulness-based behavioral approaches such as ACT and DBT.

Well, hello and thank you for taking the time to check my profile. I believe that life presents challenges to everyone regardless of culture, language, creed or personal strength. Often, there is a need for support to initiate corrections, change direction or even just for clarification of issues that manifest in the present moment. Challenge is also an opportunity. With the right approach, therapy may prove to be an effective tool. Our relationship would be dynamic and custom geared to validate, understand and address any issues of import to you as human being. Your life is unique, priceless and worthy of respect.

If your child is experiencing tantrums or aggression, feels anxious, angry, or sad, has a low tolerance for frustration, or has poor relationships with other children or adults, I can help.
From birth to five years, children are growing and developing in unprecedented ways. Mental health issues can take them off track and impede healthy development. Fortunately, children in this age group are very flexible and open. With the right kind of support, change can happen very quickly.

Do you feel anxious, depressed or both because nothing you’ve tried so far has helped you out of the hole you feel you’re in? Are you stuck, wondering how others seem to enjoy life, even handling big upsets – when you can’t seem to break through whatever keeps you down? Do you doubt the possibility of feeling better? Now, more than ever, people feel threatened, anxious about whatever is troubling them, and unsure how to get the help they want.

I work with individuals, children and families with an emphasis on family dynamics.
You may be feeling temporarily overwhelmed by the situation, in your relationship, at work, in the culture you live in or you may have felt emotionally distressed over a long period of time. In both cases, therapy can be the first step to bring relief, self actualization and happiness to you and your loved ones.

I work with clients on issues such as child development, adolescence, parenting, and blended families (lifespan issues, broadly speaking).
Navigating personal development, family, and relational issues is difficult enough by itself, let alone when you are dealing with psycho-social-emotional difficulties. I am a relatively interactive clinician, using my professional and life experience to empathetically connect with a variety of issues.

My goal is to help your family better understand what is happening for your child and how to best support them.
I also provide therapy to parents. Our children do not need to be struggling for parenting to feel hard. As a mother of two children myself, I know parenting is hard. Whether you are preparing for parenthood, in the transition/early years, or have been a parent for a decade, parents benefit from a safe space with no judgement to share their worries.

I am a native Spanish-speaking Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist from Ecuador with many years of experience specialize working with adults, couples, and with young children who have experienced traumatic events or are facing challenges in their  lives.
I help individuals feel validated in their emotions and struggles; couples to be able to de-escalate strong reactions and listen to each others' needs, while becoming assertive with their own. I work with young children and their parents through children's own language: play, for parents to understand their needs, and provide reassurance.

In my view, it is never too late to look within oneself and create the change that fits who you are, not who you think you should be or who you have been in the past. It is my goal to create safety by providing a compassionate and open space to explore together what your particular needs are and how I can best be of help to you in meeting those needs. Clients frequently come in with life transition or relationship issues, they might be experiencing a troubling set of symptoms or notice patterns that keep getting in their way. I deeply respect the courage it takes to take that first step toward change.

FAQ - About Child Therapy
When does a child need to see a therapist?
Children naturally experience emotional ups and downs. Sometimes, though, they need support from a professional. A child may benefit from therapy if their emotions or behaviors change significantly within a short period of time. For example, if a child usually spends time with friends after school but begins isolating in their room, further inquiry is warranted. Other areas for concern include altered sleep patterns, lack of appetite, intense anger, irritability, or hopelessness, or developmental regression in young children (bedwetting, thumb-sucking).

What can a child therapist help with?
A therapist can help with any difficult experience a child may encounter growing up, including learning problems or anxiety related to school, relationship challenges with friends or parents, bullying, intense emotions or phobias, divorce and family dynamics, or the death of a pet or loved one. A therapist can help children process their experience and develop coping skills in an age-appropriate way

What therapy types are most suitable for children?
Children can benefit from different forms of therapy, including family therapy, parent-child interaction therapy, play therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and exposure therapy, depending on their condition. Play therapy is a great option for younger children who may not be able to fully articulate their feelings. In this approach, kids play with toys and games while a therapist observes and helps the child express their emotions and develop coping skills.

Do I need to attend therapy with my child?
Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.

How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?
A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
