Trauma and PTSD Therapists in Alamo, CA
I have been in the mental health field for over 15 years, helping clients facing a variety of challenges including depression, anxiety, trauma, relational difficulties and unhealthy life choices.
Finding a therapist who is the "right fit" for you can be a challenging process; however, it is key to the success of therapy. Starting with a complementary phone consultation can be the first step where we can discuss your needs and desired outcomes. In my work with clients, I focus on creating a safe, supportive and collaborative space where you can have a positive therapeutic experience. I like to partner with clients in creating meaningful goals that will guide our work together. My goal is to help you gain insight into current challenges and develop effective strategies for managing them.

Though I have a specialization in PTSD, I work with a broad range of psychological issues.
I completed my doctoral training in the UCSF Dept. of Psychiatry working primarily with trauma survivors. Within that setting our standards of care were very high & I maintain that standard in my practice. My patients felt confused, irritated, exhausted & hopeless, worrying that their lives would never improve. I imagine that you do as well. With perspective & compassion I will help you make sense of your experiences, reducing the degree to which you blame yourself & helping you use your strengths to create a much more satisfying life.

I specialize in women's issues, postpartum depression & anxiety, parenting, teens, anxiety, depression and trauma.
Many of my clients struggle with the strong urge to please others at their own expense. They fear disappointing their loved ones and losing these relationships. They aren't able to live authentically, feel unnecessary guilt and are stuck in a cycle of seeking approval & acceptance. This causes inner conflict, chronic stress, low self esteem and even irritability & resentment. If you have difficulty saying 'no", over committing and neglecting your own needs, you are likely suffering from people-pleasing. Remember, you can be a good person and still say "no".

I have 21 years of experience providing assessments, consultation and psychotherapy for pregnant women, young children and their families around anxiety, depression, behavioral issues and trauma.
Becoming a parent is a unique and transformative experience. From the moment of conception through the journey of parenting there is an array of unknown rewards, challenges and experiences. At times parents have no idea how they will feel or react to these challenges and realize that they need help and support through their own journey as parents. This journey might include understanding the way people perceive and relate to their own internal child as well. Research proves the way we were parented, the environment in which we developed, and the situations around us influence the way we feel and behave as parents and human beings.

I appreciate helping individuals and couples that just want to live better lives, have deeper relationships, and find more joy in day to day living. Life can be tough. I offer a supportive and direct approach to those needing help with sex and relationship issues, anxiety, depression, anger management, trauma, and addictions. I also have a special spot in my heart to support those who have dealt with loss, whether recently or many years ago. Therapy is a space to adapt, stretch, and grow.

I specialize in addressing sexual trauma, intimacy issues, open/poly relationships, and the sex worker community.
Trauma cuts deep. It has the ability to knock the wind out of you and throw you off course. It can creep up gradually, or sometimes feel as though it strikes all at once. The process of finding someone that you trust to work with you in some of your most tender moments can be incredibly intimidating. I place great emphasis on building the therapeutic relationship in order to create a comfortable and judgment-free environment where even the darkest parts of you can feel safe to come out and be tended to. I would be honored to talk with you and see if we would be a good match in your process of healing.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
