As a neuropsychologist, my primary focus is helping people recover as fully as possible from brain injuries such as strokes, traumatic brain injuries, brain cancer, and other neurological disorders. Treatment may include comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation; recommendations for specialized cognitive therapies such as speech therapy, occupational therapy or physical therapy; psychotherapies to address trauma , anxiety, grief and loss, coping skills, identity, and relationships; and education to help people and their families cope with the impact the brain injury has had on the family, advocate for needed treatments, and participate effectively in the rehabilitation process.

Do you find yourself controlled by shame, from feeling you are “too much” or “not enough”? You are craving healthy, fulfilling relationships but are struggling to break generational cycles and harmful patterns from the past. You've learned to hide your struggles from others. You hide behind your capability, your ability not to need while readily meeting the needs of others at the expense of your own. Your extreme independence hides the fear of relying on others, of trusting them. You have tried and tried to ignore the wounds from childhood, from generational trauma , from discrimination, from having your sensitivity misunderstood.

Whether you are grappling with anxiety, depression or grief, the aftermaths of trauma or the turmoil in our world, therapy can be an anchor, a lifeline, a source of solace and a path of meaningful learning.
Many have called this an unprecedented time -- isolated in our homes, concerned about the well-being of our loved ones and facing changes and circumstances we may have never imagined. If you are feeling disoriented, unsteady or fatigued, you are not alone. As we grapple with the ongoing affects of the pandemic, it is a time of both personal and collective upheaval, a time that may challenge our endurance, but also deepen our humanity and resilience. As your therapist, I will be a compassionate, respectful and trust-worthy guide, to help you navigate your experience, whatever struggles you are facing.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist working with adults, including Veterans who struggle with the residual effects of trauma stemming from childhood abuses, single events, and combat.
Are you struggling to find peace, happiness, greater satisfaction, and healthier relationships? Do you continue to feel empty, angry, sad, or anxious? Do you feel as if you have limited ability to change? Self-knowledge is the key to understanding why you continue to struggle and how you can change the continuous negative cycle into a positive one. Through the process of psychotherapy, you will discover how your internal world interprets and affects your external world and how these mechanisms were developed. I can help you gain the insight and self-knowledge necessary for positive, lasting change.

I work with individuals, couples, and families interested in exploring relationship patterns, effective communication, parenting and attachment, gender identity, teen/pre-teen experience, trauma and loss, adoption, and work / life balance.
Welcome. I work with children, adolescents, and adults coping with relational, anxiety, traumatic, and mood disorders. In my practice, therapy often entails exploring the impact of early attachment experiences on our views of self and our ability to form close, meaningful relationships throughout life. In our work together, you will be treated with warmth, empathy, and openness. The most important part of our work is the development of a trusting relationship. This relationship creates a thoughtful, safe space to explore your strengths, challenges, and goals. My approach to clinical work is largely relational and psychodynamic.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
