This isn't your typical lay on a couch, tell your darkest secrets, psychoanalytical therapy! Nor am I a life coach handing out advice about how you should live your life! The goal is to support you in addressing barriers to you living your best life in real time. We will identify the barriers, create goals and strategies, and implement the plan together, with you in the drivers seat. Addressing the mind, body and soul means that we will work to elevate the way you think about yourself, the way you treat your body, and how you connect with others.

Do you ever feel like you need to be heard, really heard? Like you have felt voiceless or powerless, and you'd really enjoy feeling strong and empowered again, or maybe for the first time? I enjoy providing one-on-one therapy with adults who want to enact changes in their lives. I also love working with couples. I offer psychotherapy in a supportive, non-judgmental style. Words that have been used to describe my style and my setting: warm, personal, insightful, thought-provoking, relaxed. If you feel like you need a therapist who is easy to talk with, but can also help you really think through issues, I might be the right fit.

When we can give our feelings the attention they ask for, they tend to guide us in useful directions. I offer therapy as a reliable space where you can slow down, really meet your inner world and learn to relate to what you discover there. Just as our feelings have meaning, our symptoms tell a story. They can become afflictions when we don’t understand what kind of acceptance, or change, they’re asking of us. I’ve found it’s through nurturing our inner life that we have a chance to recover and revive what feels dead, lost, or unworthy, to find things of great value in ourselves and others, and even meet something that transcends us.

I work with children ranging in age from kindergarten through middle school, as well as parents and caregivers. I can help children who are facing challenges around anxiety, life transitions, losses, self-esteem, and relationships with peers and/or family members. I know that children are most effectively treated when their parents are engaged in the treatment process. The degree to which parents are included depends on each child’s needs. I am also happy to provide parent consultation as the primary intervention if a parent is interested in trying that approach instead of individual child therapy.

Over the course of life, people develop coping skills to deal with all kinds of emotional challenges. However, sometimes, individuals encounter situations for which they have no preparation or find the usually adequate coping skills are overwhelmed by the enormity of particular problem/problems. There may be patterns or behaviors that one feels stuck in or fated to repeat over-and-over. (Do you feel "stuck" but you cannot figure out how to release yourself?) In those instances a solution focused, warm, steady, and skillful therapist can assist individuals to understand the root causes of those distressing patterns.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
