I work with children ranging in age from kindergarten through middle school, as well as parents and caregivers. I can help children who are facing challenges around anxiety, life transitions, losses, self-esteem, and relationships with peers and/or family members. I know that children are most effectively treated when their parents are engaged in the treatment process. The degree to which parents are included depends on each child’s needs. I am also happy to provide
parent
consultation as the primary intervention if a
parent
is interested in trying that approach instead of individual child therapy.

You always knew you wanted to be a
parent
. It was easy to imagine the experiences you'd have with your kids- dinners discussing your day, cheering them on from the soccer field, holidays building memories... What you didn't plan for was the weight of your responsibilities. It's so hard to be present and tuned in when your mind is racing from one to-do list to the next. When you're so exhausted that you want to just lay on the couch. When the demands placed upon you feel insurmountable. All you want is to respond with patience, but you are irritated, stressed, and have no idea how to begin getting your life back to balanced.

In my work with families over the past 15 years, I have been able to create a warm and non-judgmental space for parents to explore
parenting
challenges.
Raising young children can elicit a range of intense and often conflicting emotions—delight, love, fear, and anger, to name a few. The process of becoming a
parent
can also evoke memories and feelings related to our own childhoods, which can serve as a reminder of patterns we would like to either emulate or avoid. In the midst of this phase of life transition, it can be easy to lose our footing—dilemmas start to emerge and conflicts in our relationships with partners or other family members increase. We often wonder if we are doing a good job raising our kids, while we try not to lose sight of our own needs and desires.

I work with individuals, couples, and families interested in exploring relationship patterns, effective communication,
parenting
and attachment, gender identity, teen/pre-teen experience, trauma and loss, adoption, and work / life balance.
Welcome. I work with children, adolescents, and adults coping with relational, anxiety, traumatic, and mood disorders. In my practice, therapy often entails exploring the impact of early attachment experiences on our views of self and our ability to form close, meaningful relationships throughout life. In our work together, you will be treated with warmth, empathy, and openness. The most important part of our work is the development of a trusting relationship. This relationship creates a thoughtful, safe space to explore your strengths, challenges, and goals. My approach to clinical work is largely relational and psychodynamic.

parent
seeking help for your child, I would welcome a chance to talk with you about how I may help.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
