I work with individuals, couples, and families interested in exploring relationship patterns, effective communication, parenting and attachment, gender identity, teen /pre- teen experience, trauma and loss, adoption, and work / life balance.
Welcome. I work with children, adolescents, and adults coping with relational, anxiety, traumatic, and mood disorders. In my practice, therapy often entails exploring the impact of early attachment experiences on our views of self and our ability to form close, meaningful relationships throughout life. In our work together, you will be treated with warmth, empathy, and openness. The most important part of our work is the development of a trusting relationship. This relationship creates a thoughtful, safe space to explore your strengths, challenges, and goals. My approach to clinical work is largely relational and psychodynamic.

Please reach out to us if weekly outpatient therapy or psychiatry is not enough support for your teen or young adult! IOPs can be a supportive program to help stabilize youth and avoid hospitalizations.
Bay Area Clinical Associates (BACA) is a physician-owned and operated organization committed to providing integrated, scientific, empathetic mental health treatment for kids, teens, young adults and their families. As a note, we serve only ages 26 years and under. BACA is comprised of a multidisciplinary team of child & adolescent psychiatrists, licensed marriage & family therapists, and licensed clinical social workers. We work to take the "mystery" out of psychiatric care and have a relaxed, fun, caring environment at our clinics. Our Berkeley outpatient clinic is currently impacted but we have openings for our IOPs.

I provide general counseling for adults, adolescents, and couples (anxiety and relationship issues) I specialize in addictions therapy, chronic trauma (PTSD), family therapy, and adolescent issues (self-esteem and talk therapy).
Over the course of life, people develop coping skills to deal with all kinds of emotional challenges. However, sometimes, individuals encounter situations for which they have no preparation or find the usually adequate coping skills are overwhelmed by the enormity of particular problem/problems. There may be patterns or behaviors that one feels stuck in or fated to repeat over-and-over. (Do you feel "stuck" but you cannot figure out how to release yourself?) In those instances a solution focused, warm, steady, and skillful therapist can assist individuals to understand the root causes of those distressing patterns.

“The best things in life are on the other side of fear.” You or your teen struggle with anxiety, OCD, or trauma. Or you struggle with relationship anxiety or ROCD. You spend hours worrying and feeling anxious. You’ve tried all kinds of ways to get rid of the problem - relaxation, meditation, etc. - and nothing has worked. You’re confused, frustrated, and nearly hopeless. You don’t understand why this is happening, how to make it go away, or even what to do next.

At East Bay Center for Anxiety Relief, we work with adults, children, teens, couples, and families. We also facilitate periodic groups focused on communication skills, social skills, anxiety, depression, and working women. We strive for mindful, efficient, and effective therapy. Our clinicians are trained in research-based models such as TEAM-CBT and Gottman couples/family models. We work a bit differently than more traditional practices. We don’t cram an hour of therapy into 50 minutes. Instead, we provide full 60-, 75-, or 90-minute sessions.

I'm not the stereotypical therapist who will listen to you and then reply with "Uhmm hmm. And how does that make you feel?" I prefer to be real, interactive and engage in a conversation with you. My hope is that collaboratively we can generate creative solutions to the issues that brought you in to my office. I enjoy working with individuals, couples and families. I believe that people are more than the sum of their problems and I approach my relationship with you from this perspective.

I specialize in working with teens and young adults who are navigating the transition to adulthood. This moment can bring up big questions: Who am I? Who do I want to be? Where am I headed? It can be overwhelming, but it's also a perfect moment to invest in the support you need to move skillfully into the next phase of life. I want you to feel capable of handling difficult moments as they arise, and to have a solid sense of who you and what you want out of life.

You always knew you wanted to be a parent. It was easy to imagine the experiences you'd have with your kids- dinners discussing your day, cheering them on from the soccer field, holidays building memories... What you didn't plan for was the weight of your responsibilities. It's so hard to be present and tuned in when your mind is racing from one to-do list to the next. When you're so exhausted that you want to just lay on the couch. When the demands placed upon you feel insurmountable. All you want is to respond with patience, but you are irritated, stressed, and have no idea how to begin getting your life back to balanced.

My approach emphasizes respect, transparency, authenticity, and collaboration. I believe that most problems exert their influence on people by blinding them to their own strengths, resources and potential solutions. Problems can saturate people's lives in complex and expansive ways. As a curious outsider with training and experience, I work with clients to debunk dysfunctional assumptions, and to challenge problem-inspired patterns. It's an honor to witness and support clients, as they practice living more consistently with their articulated values and goals, progressing towards more preferred ways of being.

I enjoy working with neurodivergent youth and adults who identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community and are exploring issues around gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, and coming out. I also work with individuals who have a history of trauma, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Anxiety, and Depression. I am passionate about supporting clients who are recovering from trauma in attaining a greater sense of regulation and calm in their nervous systems, in order to lead happier, more fulfilled lives.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
