I am trained in EMDR and primarily focus on existentialism, gestalt and psychodynamic , DBT, and CBT orientations.
Whatever my patients struggle with, be it mood disorders, addiction, personality disorders, etc. I am here, along their side on their path of self-discovery, with maintained curiosity , to help the person identify old patterns and behaviors that may have been adaptive at one point, but no longer serve them. I believe discussion and a laid back setting, is one of the best ways to help someone increase awareness and make those changes that will allow them to lead a life, worth living.

Life can feel overwhelming even in the best of times. You may experience a trauma or crisis or the very real stress of every day life. Sometimes you can cope and sometimes you need some emotional support. If emotional pain, fear or uncertainty is causing you to shy away from living the life you want, know that there is help. If you are looking to make changes that can help you have healthier, happier relationships and life experiences or deal with emotional upheavals or family issues we may be a good fit for therapy.

My foundation is in psychodynamic therapy, and I also bring in treatment and tools of a variety of other therapies in order to customize treatment to each unique client.
Every person is a compilation of unique traits, experiences, personality, physiology, and socio-cultural factors. All of these things shaped you into who you are. Some of these factors and experiences may have been painful, making life difficult to navigate or cope with. These experiences may have changed how you function, your relationship with others, how you see and attract others, and the relationship with yourself. Therapy is for you if you are looking to process trauma, lessen symptoms, learn coping skills, unlearn harmful patterns, grow, and have more insight into yourself and your unconscious processes.

I believe that understanding and exploring the authentic self is essential in overcoming many complex struggles. I work to help uncover what my clients basic truth is, and in doing so work with anxiety, depression, adjustment issues, parenting, pregnancy, and family dynamics.

My therapeutic approach is eclectic in that I pull from a number of different theoretical orientations including mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and emotionally focused therapy.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist with over 25 years of experience specializing in anxiety, depression, maternal mental health, women’s issues, life transitions, and parenting. Through my experience, I’ve learned to base my practice around what science calls the negativity bias. This is the notion that when we struggle, we are neurobiologically wired to make sense of our struggle by creating a negative story around it. The negativity bias often keeps us feeling defeated, broken and not good enough.

"Let's finally stop just talking about your problems, and begin doing something about them." I've found that at the core of most of our troubles is deeper conflict between our Values and Actions. This inconsistency may have been caused by past experiences, traumatic events or a genetic predisposition. Regardless of the source of the problem, let's take a more active approach to feeling happier and healthier. Whether you are seeking help in your career, looking to improve your relationship, having problems with the kids or struggling with anxiety, let's get started. The time is now!

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
