Dr. Shirin Zarqa-Lederman is a counseling psychologist specializing in trauma services and community psychology, holding a PhD in the field. Prior to establishing her private practice, Dr. Shirin was a program coordinator for a NJ adolescent substance abuse program, where she developed treatment curriculum for group and family therapy. Later, she worked as a community liaison for this program and three others in New York, coordinating psychiatric and substance abuse care.
Dr. Shirin's extensive experience as an in-home counselor, utilizing a holistic family approach to reduce challenging behaviors at home and school. There, she recognized the impact of generational and racial trauma on her clients. She deepened her understanding of trauma services through her doctoral studies at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology.
During her time there she worked with the Refugee Working Group to develop a children's story, which addresses refugee children's anxieties. Additionally, she completed field experiences in Ghana and Rwanda, where she explored, developed, and demonstrated culturally responsive counseling methods for children and adolescents experiencing trauma reactions.
