We are the therapy office for people who don't like therapy. Our belief is that therapy doesn't have to be the uncomfortable, somewhat formal experience that most people expect. We have 2 therapy dogs, Jackson and Larry to greet you when you come in the door. Larry is Jackson's understudy and is still quite ..well ... enthusiastic in greeting clients (as long as you're not the mailman). For privacy, we have no on Mendocino Ave, but once you get inside you'll know that you're in the right place. We talk to you like one human to another to help you sort out what's going on in your world and how we can help.

I understand that human beings are multifaceted. It can be hard to understand why you think and behave the way you do. You may experience conflicting feelings that lead you in circles or undermine your deepest wishes or goals. You may also be grappling with loss, life transition, family conflict, and the end of a relationship. You may struggle with a new role as a step-parent or new spouse. Life events and transitions can be disruptive and confusing. In therapy, we discover that challenging times lead us to grow into ourselves more fully and authentically.

I have specialized training and experience in couples therapy. If you are stuck in a painfully destructive relationship pattern, I can help you. I have worked with couples for over 27 years. EFT, Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples, is by far the most effective way to work with relationship problems. EFT is one of the only empirically validated couples therapy approaches, and has been shown to out-perform all other modalities in follow-up studies, tracking couples after therapy has ended. EFT has dramatically increased my ability to help couples transform painful relationship patterns into deeply fulfilling and enduring bonds.

As a Licensed Clinician for 14 years, I can provide a supportive and compassionate environment for you to explore patterns in feelings, behaviors and thought. Through this exploration, you can experience a new openness and freedom in relationships and in daily interactions with life.

The clients that are drawn to working with me are individuals who are determined to free themselves from emotional oppression. Negative life experiences can hinder our ability to grow into our full potential and can cause us to engage in unhealthy relationships with ourselves, the ones we love and the world around us. It is with love and compassion that I work in partnership with my clients to discover what inner wounds and needs there are to be tended to.

Hello, my name is Roslynn Noble. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW 89024). This means I am trained as a therapist and as a social worker. I have worked as a clinical social worker for the last 10 years. Most recently my area of focus has been brief therapy, which focuses on stabilizing a single issue in 5-12 sessions. Therapy can be overwhelming, and the first few sessions are sometimes spent identifying and prioritizing what to stabilize.

It is possible, I believe, for life to be deeply satisfying, fulfilling and vital ~ whatever the beginning, and however difficult or confusing the present time might seem. For over 30 years in my practice, I have witnessed this again and again -- and have developed a deep respect for the stamina and resilience of the human spirit. I work to provide you with the kind of supportive context that can help you find your innate gifts, and make real the changes you envision. I focus on the ways awareness of difficulty or pain can be a key to hidden strength and renewal.

I believe trust is built on expressing empathy, being non-judgmental, authentic, skillfully assertive and honest.

We are born to love and be loved. Yet, difficult work, home, or health challenges, high sensitivity, introversion, rocky relationships, relocation, or unresolved childhood issues can make us feel unloved, resulting in depression, anxiety, stress, mistrust, grief, anger, loneliness, or low self-esteem. I provide a safe haven to explore your innermost feelings, thoughts, experiences, desires; I want to hear your story. I listen attentively, acknowledge your feelings, and gently identify/examine self-defeating thoughts and behavior patterns, causing suffering. We will develop and practice ways to reduce stress and anxiety, diminish depression, increase self-confidence, and enhance well-being.

My style of engagement is non-hierarchical and non-pathologizing, and is rooted in and guided by a spirit of loving curiosity, compassion, and camaraderie. I am candid and enjoy *keeping it real* in ways that invite the authenticity and honesty that fuel growth and change. At the same time, I work with sensitive awareness and caring of the many aspects of each individual, of each aspect’s unique needs and desires, and of the need of each to be seen, understood and supported. This approach is the foundation for the collaborative work I do with my clients.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
