My professional history consists of 14 years in addiction counseling and an additional 3 years of mental health/relationship counseling. I believe the individual is comprised of four domains: Biological, Psychological, Social and Spiritual. In our search for purpose and meaning all of these domains must be addressed. I embrace a holistic approach to counseling which views the counselor as a trained professional- but not all knowing expert. While the client has problems; the client also has solutions. Through a therapeutic alliance, together we can develop a plan that will lead to a more fulfilling life.
My counseling orientation is existentialism- humans are designed for connection and this is what leads to purpose and meaning in our lives. I believe the deepest level of connection is with God; however, it's not for me to judge what that means for any individual. Improved relationships= +well being!
I have specialized training in the areas of addiction and trauma informed care. I am very sensitive to gender issues and work very well with couples because I have a thorough understanding of interpersonal dynamics. I listen very closely to what people are telling me; and what they are not.
