Therapy weaves life into the fabric of our stories. I am especially interested in the challenges experienced by the adult children of military parents - Military Brats, we boldly call ourselves - and Third Culture Kids (TCKs), Ruth Useem's term for people who spent part of their development in cultures and places different from their passport country. Brats and TCKs often feel lingering culture shock long after their travels are over, if they ever are over. We may seem rootless, but our roots spread far and wide. We struggle to make sense of our wonders, worries, and wanderings; our adventures. I love deeply those adventures.
Narrative Therapy (Dulwich style) cultivates awareness, wisdom, and meaning in your life, and in the lives of others. It encourages vigorous authority over our unfolding narratives. As a Brat, a TCK, I bring lived experience to our shared tasks of healing and finding - healing the aching, anger, anxiety and fear; finding new meaning, vigor, pride, and hope.
Brats and TCKs leave behind more people and places than others ever meet or see. Our painful childhood good-byes became a new normal; now our growing sense of fellowship, adventure, and even duty rekindles our hearts to both meaningful purpose and priceless perspective. We thrive when we find each other again, regardless of the time passed. I promise.

Adult Third Culture Kids/Military Brats
[No current group -- contact if interested] Adult Third Culture Kids and Military Brats (TCKs and Brats) often find themselves unable to build a sense of home and social belonging. They often spent their youth in a foreign culture, and still feel mixed in their social identity, sometimes feeling more ties to the foreign community of their youth than to their "passport" country. Many enjoy more connection, and have more in common, with other TCKs and Brats than with anyone else. Many isolate, but even after years, group therapy can bring self-recognition and connection, and finally settle their culture shock.
