The quality I most desire in clients is authenticity. I view the therapeutic relationship as being based upon mutual trust, and it is difficult to enact meaningful change if we fail to present our genuine selves. However, I also acknowledge that we all have different experiences, and there is no need to be concerned if it takes varying amounts of time to build trust in the therapeutic relationship. I have experience working with the following: nearly all mood disorders and personality disorders, substance dependency, dual diagnosis, trauma, adolescent crime, couples counseling, family counseling.
My first goal is always to create a trusting therapeutic relationships, as I find that is a key component of effective treatment. I most enjoy collaborating with clients to help overcome challenges such as traumatic experiences, grief/loss, depression/anxiety/bipolar, relationship issues, addiction, low self-efficacy, distorted beliefs about self, etc.
I acknowledge that most meaningful change requires courage and willingness, so I prioritize practicing unconditional acceptance and non-judgement of clients. It is a genuine honor to be allowed into the personal lives and challenges of clients, and I demonstrate my respect such work by being consistently present, trustworthy, and dependable.
