I am an EMDR and brainspotting trained therapist and believe in its transformative power.
Sometimes we just need a safe place where we can be ourselves and work on our own healing-whatever it may be. Beginning therapy can be scary for some people and I believe in meeting people where they are to build a safe space where they can work on life issues.

Almost always centered from a Gestalt therapeutical orientation, I utilize a variety of therapeutic approaches including but not limited to: brainspotting, sand tray processing, play therapy, meditative practices, and traditional talk-therapy.
Throughout my career, I have dedicated my practice to serving adults, adolescents, and families who identify as queer and/or transgender/non-binary. In addition, I also provide play therapy services to children (5-10 years-old) and their families who are experiencing emotional and behavioral regulation concerns. It is my philosophy that we are never too young or too old to begin our journey through growth, healing, and self-discovery. Using therapeutic practices that are centered around mind-body connections and trauma informed care, I would love to be a part of you or your child's journey towards wellness.

Beyond doing talk therapy, I have advanced training in EMDR & Brainspotting, which specializes in treating issues related to trauma, PTSD, anxiety, loss, stress & insecurities often more quickly than traditional talk-therapies.
Do you want to be listened to without criticism, judgment, or feelings of rejection? Most people do! But do you desire something more? When most people enter therapy, what they often truly desire is change. I want to help you achieve whatever solutions and life changes you are seeking while enjoying the process as much as possible. Simply said, I don’t believe therapy has to always be a painful thing. Calling a therapist can be intimidating, but I hope you will take a moment (and maybe even a deep breath) to reach out and see how I can help.

Along with traditional "talk therapy" I utilize Brainspotting, a relational and neurobiological approach that targets stubborn memories and emotions.
Welcome! I am a psychotherapist with over 30 years of experience working with individuals, couples and families. Just about all of us hit some bumps on the road as we journey through this wonderful adventure called life and I consider it my personal privilege to join with you as you navigate those bumps. I see each person as a unique individual (not a diagnosis!) and believe that YOU are ultimately the expert on YOU. I am a compassionate, non-judgmental listener who can help you see your dilemmas in new ways that generate hope and creative solutions that work for YOU.

I'm trained in brainspotting, mindfulness, and am working toward my yoga (Y200) teacher training.
It takes courage to look for a counselor you connect with. I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental space which encourages contemplation and wellness during the therapeutic journey. Many of my clients are healing from past medical trauma, experience chronic illness, face grief and loss, and struggle with self-esteem and perfectionism. My goal is to help you hone your intuitive self and create safe/appropriate boundaries as you authentically find your voice. I work with self-pay clients to find a payment that works for each of us.

Kara Morrissey is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Board Certified Art Therapist, certified in Brainspotting, and a graduate of The University of Georgia and Florida State University who specializes in working with clients who have received multiple levels of treatment, high risk behavior, clients coping with critical incidents, grief, and substance abuse.
The word “support” might call to mind images of braces, splints, tracks, or advice— all things that try to force a certain form. What I mean by “support” looks less like applied pressure and more like a gentle holding up so that another human soul may unfurl in their own time and take whatever shape would be in alignment with their natural way. Support means to protect, attend to, witness, and reflect back the worth in every process— and when appropriate, to collaborate and name their experience of psychic expansion through words or images.

As a brain-based psychotherapist, I provide traditional psychotherapy and newer, evidenced-based techniques such as Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and Brainspotting (BSP).
Life is complex, with demands on you, your relationships, and your time causing stressors that make your personal and work life seem overwhelming. Headaches. Lack of sleep. No energy to spend time with loved ones. Maybe you’re not showing your best self to your spouse and are faced with the dreaded “We need to talk” conversation. You know that anxiety, depression, or past trauma is affecting your well-being, marriage, and meaningful relationships. It makes you feel as if you’ll never meet your own or others’ expectations or goals.

We incorporate many techniques and approaches and each therapist is trained in Brainspotting, a brain based approach.
Transitions can be scary and unknown—being on your own for the first time, starting college, being an empty nester struggling to find purpose, being retired or going through a divorce and feeling a loss of identity, hurting from past trauma or struggling with your spiritual journey. Often, feeling lost can lead to depression, anxiety, a sense of not belonging and even mal-adaptive behaviors such as substance abuse or self-harm. We at Baobab Counseling Center are passionate about working with individuals to tap into their inner strength, desires and potential while identifying and overcoming those barriers that arise.

Brokenness and disillusionment in marriage saddens me because I know there is a better way. My passion as an Emotionally Focused and Gottman Couple's Therapy trained counselor is to bring hope and to assist in building extraordinary connection between partners who have lost their way to each other's hearts. My practice is all about relationships--helping singles understand the importance of discovering and bringing their authentic selves to relationships, helping the divorced to rediscover their voices and significance in the midst of their grief, and preparing premarital couples for the uncharted but rewarding journey of marriage.

Brainspotting Therapists

How does brainspotting work?

Brainspotting works by using eye positioning to identify and process traumatic memories so that a client is better able to move forward and live with less fear. The theory behind brainspotting is that by identifying where a person looks when thinking of traumatic memories, a therapist will be able to guide them to focus on that spot and work with the client to get them out of the “fight, flight, freeze” response associated with the traumatic memory.

Is brainspotting an evidence-based therapy?

Brainspotting is a theory-based alternative therapy. It is one of the newest forms of treatment, so very little research has been completed that examines the mechanism by which it works. The theory behind brainspotting is that eye position can be linked to areas of the brain that store and process memory.

How effective is brainspotting?

Because it is such a new treatment, the effectiveness of brainspotting cannot be quantified. Some people have found it to be effective on its own, or in conjunction with other types of therapy. It is considered an alternative therapy, and it is popular with people for whom more traditional therapies have proven ineffective.

How long does brainspotting take to work?

A typical brainspotting session will last between 60 to 90 minutes. There is no required number of sessions needed to complete brainspotting therapy, but in many cases it is delivered over the course of about six sessions. Clients are encouraged to rate their level of distress prior to a session and again following a session, and to track progress.
