When times get hard, having someone in your corner can make all the difference. I approach therapy from a holistic, client-centered perspective. My goal is to help you navigate the challenges in your life by working together to make real, lasting changes for the better. My approach is at once compassionate and pragmatic, and my work with clients is never one-size-fits-all. I want to get to know who you are, what’s been working for you and what needs work. From there, we can work together to build a treatment plan tailored to your lifestyle and goals, on your timeline, with you in mind.

Are you feeling misunderstood or disconnected from your partner? Tired of having the same argument over and over again and never getting anywhere? Do you feel lonely in your relationship and discouraged about how to get close again? Sometimes it can feel hopeless. You may have settled into a pattern of quiet resignation, filling your time with distractions, and trying to ignore the fact that neither of you is truly happy. Whatever your circumstances, couples therapy can help you identify the negative patterns keeping you stuck and build a stronger, healthier relationship in which you feel seen, heard and connected.

As a mental health professional, I want to assure you that it is completely normal to feel overwhelmed and lost at times. It is important to recognize when you are struggling and to seek help. It is not a sign of weakness to ask for support, but rather a sign of strength and self-awareness. There are many resources available to help you, including therapy, support groups, and self-care activities. It is never too late to start taking care of yourself and to work towards a happier and healthier life. It may be difficult to make the first step, but trust that it will be worth it in the long run. You deserve to feel better and to live

Life is complex and there is rarely a single issue that brings someone to therapy. From struggling with identity and purpose in life to contemplating the meaning and nature of death, human existence is challenging and often painful. These existential givens are further burdened by experiences of trauma, oppression, terminal illness, grief, and the climate crisis. In this harsh world it seems easier to hide our vulnerabilities and find ways to escape, avoid, or numb our feelings - often losing ourselves in the process. Loneliness and fear can keep us trapped in toxic cycles, but we aren't meant to struggle alone.

At its core, I believe therapy to be about creating space for change. People come to therapy for a variety of reasons—seeking support and healing, desiring change, looking for relief from pain. With a relational and trauma-informed lens, we’ll look at how you landed here, in an effort to find new ways of being that may be kinder to yourself and more congruent with a whole and healthy life. I work with teens, adults, and couples on issues of trauma, anxiety, grief, relationships, life transitions, and identity formation. I have focused much of my work supporting women recovering from trauma.

Suffering is not evidence of failure. It is evidence of one thing... your humanity. We all suffer sometimes and we all deserve compassion and care simply because we're human. Coming to therapy can be scary. Even as you're reaching out to have a chance at a better experience in life, you want to know that who you are, and where you are now, will be respected and cared for. I believe good therapy can be both challenging and gentle, supportive and enlivening.

We've all experienced the pain of feeling stuck-- in our relationships, in ways of thinking and feeling, in behaviors that don't serve us. I work to help people identify ineffective patterns, explore the issues that trouble them, and deal with the unexpected challenges that inevitably arise in life. This work involves exploration of the past, identifying where relationships and experiences overwhelmed us, exceeded our ability to cope and resulted in the creation of unhelpful beliefs and behaviors. Untangling, reframing and updating these patterns leads to a greater sense of harmony both internally and in relationship to others.

I am interested in the depths and think of therapy as the place our unconscious, which mysteriously shapes our lives, can reveal to us what we want, love, hate, need, have experienced, and so on. Eventually contacting and digesting what we feel yet might not know we feel, or yet understand, has unpredictable and profound effects, often liberating. What was once a source of indigestible pain and confusion can be the starting place for vitality and clarified, vivified, deep Living. It's not always easy, nor is it necessarily meant to be, but it's worth it. As a therapist I practice surrender, courage, presence, humor, and attunement.

Modern relationships are HARD. It’s a struggle to find the right person OR to wonder if your current partner is possibly the wrong person. It’s tough when you feel burned by or totally confused about your path. Maybe you’ve even made choices or overlooked things you now regret. Or, maybe it’s a relationship with a boss or coworkers who undervalue you or play favorites with others. Your work ethic and good ideas have long taken a backseat to putting out fires or just avoiding things way more than you should. You’re past thinking that life’s fair. But, you never thought that things could go THIS wrong or get under your skin THIS much.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Seattle?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
