Narcissism… “he’s a narcissist, she’s a narcissist; I went on a date with a narcissist, I’m married to a narcissist.” Really? If everyone is a narcissist, then no one is a narcissist. Clinical narcissism is widely misunderstood and misinterpreted, and what society has appropriated as narcissism has become weaponized and meaningless. Buzzwords and microwave therapy – hot takes on TikTok and Reddit by non-professionals – have come to dominate the discussion about mental health. Do we all meet criteria for ADHD and/or Autism diagnoses? No, we don’t. Web MD trafficking and zealous Google searches lead to incorrect self-diagnoses.
“Men can’t be trusted, women can’t be satisfied” (or vice versa) – are we sure? Broad, sweeping over-generalizations are reductive, dismissive, and invalidating. Trendy cure-alls and fixer-uppers do more harm than good. Cute and easy is not sustainable. We are all in our own movie, and I want to hear your take - what you are experiencing in your movie.
How often have you heard “I’ve done the research!” or “Do your research!”? What does that even mean?
