Psychotherapy is a very personal and unique endeavor. Your life experiences, strengths, and current needs along with the therapist’s personality, training, and background will determine the characteristics of your treatment. My personal and professional development have made me sensitive to and interested in personality characteristics and sociocultural factors that shape personal experiences. Therefore, I strive to understand the unique familial and cultural context in which your specific difficulties have developed. Together we can explore how and why they came to be and discover more effective ways to cope in your current life.
I have a doctoral degree in clinical psychology and my approach is psychodynamic. I have additional postdoctoral training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), EFT, and group psychotherapy. When needed, I implement DBT techniques in order to reduce symptom severity and increase tolerance for emotions that are difficult to experience and lead to distress.
I work well with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, or the complex effects of trauma. My patients tend to appreciate and benefit from my attentive listening and directness. I support clients in learning about themselves and factors contributing to their current difficulties and we collaborate in facilitating growth and change.
