Life can be difficult and so can mental health challenges. There has been a stigma associated with mental health that has prevented people who need mental health counseling from seeking mental health counseling. Anxiety, Depression and Grief, to name a few, are a part of life, and sometimes, we need a little help getting through those difficult periods of life, talking to someone about mental health issues is the first step to moving forward and working through those issues.

I use narrative therapy to address anger in women, conflict in family relationships, codependency, sexuality and setting boundaries.
Paul Coelho says, “Maybe the journey isn’t so much about becoming anything. Maybe it’s about unbecoming everything that isn’t really you, so you can be who you were meant to be in the first place.” I support clients on the journey back to themselves. We often put pressure on ourselves to “be” a certain way - so much that life can feel like acting instead of living. This acting can feel draining and lead to increased stress, anxiety and depression. I believe that therapy is a space where you can take off the facade and reconnect with your genuine, whole self - finding freedom and renewed vitality. I invite you to begin your journey.

I work from a solution-focused and narrative approach.
Life is tough. There are many trials and hardships we experience and sometimes we carry all of that with us until we reach a point where we stop feeling like ourselves or have never truly found the self we wanted to be. I am here to help you find the self you desire and have been wanting to reach. Together, we will work to overcome the obstacles life has put up and work towards healing from areas of the past that have held you for too long. I am a firm believer that when we take the first step in taking care of ourselves mentally, emotionally. physically, and/or spiritually, our perspective starts to change and restoration begins.

Via talk therapy, Brainspotting, CBT, DBT, and ACT, we focus treatment on your symptoms and your full narrative.
I'm accepting clients! Feel unloved, outcasted, or struggle with connection? Is expressing your human needs to support systems difficult? Growing up, did you feel overwhelmed by expectations of success? Were you obligated to serve as a caretaker? Do you focus more on others’ happiness and well-being in your current relationships and sacrifice your wants and needs? Are you afraid of abandonment, judgment, rejection, and failure? I can support you in pursuing balance, problem-solving, navigating life transitions, and processing trauma and family wounds (i.e. abuse, divorce, adoption, and sick parents).

My blended approach draws primarily from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Internal Family Systems.
Counseling is such a bold and brave step in the process of healing. I believe that healthy development and growth are not reached by the elimination of pain and challenges, but rather in developing healthy methods of understanding, coping with, and responding to pain. This can be a challenging, but a beautiful process, and I am honored to walk with my clients through it. Most of my training is in working with women and I enjoy working alongside them as they navigate working through trauma, work/life balance, anxiety, boundary issues, guilt/shame, identity issues, life transitions, self-esteem, depression, and/or loss.

I offer a person-centered and narrative approach to therapy to help clients learn to relate better while applying tactical skills based on CSAT tasks and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) skills.
I started my career as an electrical engineer in the aerospace industry, working and leading teams for the International Space Station and a satellite mission. Wanting to work more closely with people, I switched to business strategy consulting, traveling to Fortune 100 companies on a weekly basis for two years. While I got the chance to solve complex problems, I realized I wanted to help people solve the problems that mattered to them at a deeper level. This, coupled with my own recovery journey, is what drives me to do exceptional therapy work today.

I use an integrative approach that is informed by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Person-Centered Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Feminist Theory, and I believe in working together to create a plan that feels right for you.
Hey there! My name is Bekah, and I am a therapist at Three Oaks Behavioral Health & Wellness. I enjoy working with adults and teens on topics including identity, LGBTQ+ matters, self-esteem, life transitions, relationships, stress, depression, and inner child work. I am deeply passionate about working with folks seeking to unpack experiences of religious harm and spiritual abuse. I’ve experienced firsthand how isolating and confusing re-evaluating long-held belief systems can be, and I would love to support you as you identify what holds meaning for you and begin creating a life that aligns with your values.

Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
