Are you experiencing feelings of anxiety, low mood, or would like someone to process your feelings with? Reaching out and asking for help can be difficult. I want to make that first step easier for you by providing nonjudgmental listening and support in a safe environment. Therapy should be an avenue for you to explore your strengths and learn more about yourself. You are the expert in your own life and I will collaborate with you to seek tools and strategies to cope. I believe in empowering those I work with to express their goals for treatment and explore how I can best support that individual as their therapist.

Life is a course of obstacles that requires a course of healing. Where are you in your healing journey? Perhaps you’re in the beginning, middle, or waver between different stages leaving you feeling stuck. How often are you comfortable in sharing your adversities and how they impact you? Doing this can be very intimidating due to fear of judgment and other vulnerabilities. Taking the first step in seeking help is a significant act of bravery. Our hope is that you allow Compassion Healthcare, Inc. to join you in your courageous healing process.

Whether I am working with a young child or an adult, I believe that the healing process is a journey of returning home to the authentic self with the therapeutic relationship as a vehicle supporting the exploration. My name is Aimee and I hope to walk along with you on this journey, offering compassion, co-regulation, and some education along the way. When we can lean into the understanding of how our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors have come to be, we may also begin to explore where we may have gotten stuck and how we can have a renewed access to the wisdom and assets that our bodies possess.

My focus is to assist children, adolescents, families, and adults to build positive self image through enhancing self esteem, improving social skills, and reducing family and peer conflicts. I work closely with parents to strengthen their limit setting, clear expectations, and conflict resolution abilities through improved communication skills. Setting limits and boundaries in all relationships and dynamics is a tool that I often use in my therapeutic process. Giving children, parents, couples and individuals tools to maneuver through the daily issues are tools and techniques that I focus on in our sessions.

I have completed trainings in CBT for anxiety and depression, Mindfulness, and Grief.
After raising a family, I returned to school, and have now enjoyed over a decade working as a clinical social worker with adults both in hospital and community based settings. Often, additional support is needed to find meaning and regain a sense of stability after loss, life transitions and both physical and mental illness. I work from a model of wellness that includes physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. I pull from various theoretical perspectives based on what is appropriate for your needs.

I believe that every human is shaped by an interplay of factors that come from within and without the person. That is to say that the power of therapy comes from a deeper understanding of the forces inside and out that shape a person into a unique individual. I also find that the center of psychotherapy is the relationship--the relationship with those in one’s life, the relationship with the therapist, and the relationship with oneself. Whether you are seeking therapy to find a deeper purpose in your life, or you are experiencing life’s challenges in the form of pain, anxiety, depression, loss, or conflict, I am here to help.

Through years of education, training and experience I have gained skills in helping individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, and grief.
Have you been finding yourself feeling overwhelmed and realizing things need to change? Maybe you have already tried everything you can think of, your friends have suggested, or that girl on tiktok recommended, but just not getting the results you want. You are feeling frustrated that you are struggling so much rather than living your life to the fullest. The thoughts in your head aren’t always very kind and helping either. They say things like; I wish I could just feel myself again. I’m stuck, I need to be better, it feels hopeless. This issue is creating strained relationships with family, your kids, or friends.

As a native of Iredell County, it is my privilege to counsel individuals who live here and in surrounding areas. Past experience includes working with adults of all ages, couples, children and teens. I particularly enjoyed working with teens in an alternative school setting. I have also counseled individuals struggling with OCD, ADHD, anxiety, depression, parenting issues, low self-esteem, and developmental disabilities. I especially empathize with the DD population due to personally experiencing many of the struggles faced by having a daughter who was born with Spina bifida.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
