My approach to counseling is to use existentialism to assist the client in reaching their journey with the accountability and acceptance that they are unique and powerful. By using a collaboration of tools, the individual and myself are able to discover a pathway that requires hard work, but freedom in knowing that each step is celebrated. I value my client's journey as it is what has created their character, it is my desire to assist them to live life with purpose using their journey to succeed.

I believe that the first step toward change is acceptance and compassion.
Are you feeling stuck, discontented, or hopeless? Do you find yourself wondering if there is more to life? You are not alone. Many of us find ourselves stuck in patterns of thought and behavior that leave us feeling discontent, disconnected, and unworthy. I believe that we are all born worthy and born with an inner wisdom that guides us towards meaning and authenticity, My goal as a therapist is to support clients in learning to access their own inner wisdom by learning new ways of relating to emotions, relating to others, and relating to themselves.

I use a variety of therapy modalities including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), attachment theory, psychodynamic therapy, emotion-focused therapy (EFT) and mindfulness practices.
I provide guidance for clients with a variety of mental health concerns including anxiety, OCD, depression, traumatic events, challenging childhoods, and feeling overwhelmed, stressed and “not good enough,” but most importantly, I enjoy helping folks navigate the challenges of being human in a world that is constantly telling us how we’re “supposed” to be. I strive to create a warm, non-judgmental and down-to-earth environment for clients to begin sharing their life experiences, expanding self-awareness, shifting perspectives, and letting go of unworkable patterns in order to move in a more meaningful and intentional direction.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
