I am a bilingual (Spanish/English) bicultural, LICSW, clinical social worker. I obtained my MSW and PhD degrees from Smith College, School for Social Work. I have worked in the mental health field for over 25 years providing individual and family therapy to adults, children, adolescents and couples. I specialize in parent-child and sibling conflict, depression, grief/loss, domestic violence, anxiety, trauma, acculturation, relocation/immigration and life transitions. I am also an Associate Professor at Westfield State University, and adjunct faculty at Columbia University, Smith College and Boston University.

About Louisa Gould, LICSW: People seem to find me when they are supposed to in life. Clients who come to see me, often feel as though they need support with something in life. Mainly I find that most of us experience some sort of interruption in our lives. These interruptions can be addictions, losses, toxic relationships, difficult decisions, traumatic situations or can take many other shapes and forms throughout life. It is my belief that it is through these interruptions, that people often seek counseling and support. No one should have to travel through life alone.

Therapy is an act of strength, hope, and resiliency. Even the happiest and most well-adjusted people may encounter problems resulting from unexpected life challenges and demands. My goal is to work in collaboration and partnership with my clients to bring about positive changes, growth, and healing from past painful events. I have 15 years of clinical experience as a psychotherapist. I received both my Master's degree and Continued Advanced Graduate Study Degree in Counseling Psychology from Cambridge College. I am also certified as a cognitive behavioral therapist from Boston University School of Social Work.

I believe what and how much you put into therapy that you are going to get out of therapy and treatment; Which truly goes with just about anything and everything in life. If you give it all you got, then you are bound to get to where you want to go and ultimately even how you choose to feel. We don't always get a choice in life, yet we are able to change how we think and look at what is in front of us and if it doesn't align with who you are and what you want, then I am here to help you along the way to become the best version of you and assist with you in achieving and feeling your best self including emotions and being as a whole.

I am a seasoned, licensed psychologist who specializes in the treatment of people experiencing life/career stress, chronic pain, substance abuse, anxiety and/or depression. I treat adults, couples and families. I was the Chief Psychologist for the Lahey Pain Management Center in Danvers, Mass for 5 years and led a free chronic pain support group at Lahey- Beverly Hospital for 7 year.s I have written 2 books (one second edition), have had an American Psychological Association certificate for treating people with mixed substance use/abuse-dependence and am on the allied health courtesy staff at BI-Lahey-Beverly Hospital.

My Interventions are evidenced based and time tested in years of practice. I work with anxiety and depression with sub-specialties in addictions, sport psychology and chronic pain management.
