Human suffering stems from unacknowledged trauma which develops multiple ways including spans of prolonged stress, surgery, crime, grief, injury, childhood neglect or abuse, domestic violence or bullying. Trauma symptoms- depression, anxiety, and PTSD, are difficult to overcome. With traditional therapy you may find symptoms keep resurfacing, thus impairing your functioning and leading you to feel frustrated and discouraged. But, there is another way to do therapy, the EMDR way. EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, a therapy that goes directly to the trauma by targeting the way it is stored in your brain.
Talk therapy may not be effective because your brain automatically represses the trauma to protect you from thinking about it and triggering the fight or flight response. The trauma is not gone, merely suppressed. Therefore, trauma exists in your brain (and body), inaccessible to traditional talk therapy.
The type of EMDR that I predominantly use is called Natural Processing, a somatically-based, (body-based) , processed-oriented therapy. Natural Processing recognizes both the brain's automatic repression of trauma and the opposing human drive for completion, which compels us to revisit unprocessed trauma until it is resolved.
