My approach is mindful, non-judgmental, and eclectic. I invite and challenge clients to build a stronger connection with themselves by using a strengths-based, evidence-based, and holistic approach. Therapy is an exploratory process where both people in the room are learners and teachers. I use a mixed-methods approach which takes from Motivational Interviewing, mindfulness, Psychodynamic, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, and other evidence-based somatic and cognitive techniques.

Therapy is emotionally hard for everyone and most people at some point in their life have seen a therapist or could have benefited from seeing a therapist. The hardest step is the first contact. I believe that the therapeutic relationship between you and your therapist is what helps you make the changes in your life that "you" want to make. My focus is on helping you discover your strengths as a way to live a happier, positive and more meaningful life. I believe in a compassionate, strength-based and client centered approach. Located on bus route 16 or 24 close to Meijer on W. Lake Lansing (Harrison Rd.) Convenient for MSU.

Often times we may think we have all the answers, one task after the next, one problem after the next. In the midst of so much surrounding stimuli we often forget to take a moment in the beauty of stillness. Stillness is such a simple word, but it can be difficult to achieve or appreciate but it is not impossible. As a therapist I have always believed if you show someone the window, they will find the door themselves. As you look through the window, I hope you find comfort in knowing this is a place you can be seen and heard whenever you are ready.

Each person's life has incredible value. The problem for many is that they fail to see and or recognize their worth and potential. The good news is that regardless of one's circumstances, or problems, change is always possible. It is ultimately up to us to decide who we will be, and what kind of mark we want to make in this world. As a counselor, I see value in each person, and partner with them to help them discover new ways of thinking, acting and believing.

Intrusive thoughts can be scary and overwhelming. Compulsions can seem inescapable. Anxiety can come with no obvious reasons and can make our days difficult and exhausting. Anxiety, fear, sadness, and shame can affect our day-to-day lives. Sometimes we can feel that these emotions are consuming our thoughts and actions. Therapy can help people understand and manage these emotions.

Welcome! Most of my clients express feeling heard & hopeful after our first session. I believe a strong client-therapist connection is crucial in therapy. Finding the right therapist can be challenging and my goal is to make that process as comfortable as possible. It is natural to feel overwhelmed by life at times. Together we will create a personalized treatment plan with a focus on the whole person (mind and body), as every person & experience is unique. I utilize a strengths-based approach to help people identify what they are already doing well, and help them see & build on that potential. Small changes can make a big impact.

I believe that therapy should be individualized for everyone. Therapy is not one size fits all, and because of that I draw from an eclectic approach. I focus on empowering clients to take control of their lives and the way they think in connection with their actions. I am skilled and trained in Trauma-Focused CBT, CBT (in general) and DBT. I am willing to also explore other techniques and methods that would better suit my client if they find that these methods do not fit them.

At some point during life's journey, most of us experience difficulties that would be easier to navigate with the support and guidance of a trained therapist. These difficulties may range from chronic, problematic behavioral patterns stemming from unresolved childhood issues or trauma, to difficulty coping with a current life situation or phase-of-life transition.

I believe that when a person experiences trauma or life stressors, it can be quite common for life to feel as though it is unraveling. I take pride in bringing healing to people who have been through trauma/stressful experiences. My job is to help my clients who include adults, children and families to find healthy perceptions of themselves, different coping skills and a new found strength within themselves to take on the world and thrive. I know no single approach is the right one for every individual so I am trained in a range of modalities.

I am aware of the stigma surrounding therapy/mental health in the Latinx community firsthand, which was one of the deciding factors in becoming a therapist. Through therapy, we can establish goals and learn how to overcome barriers to achieve your goals. I strive to provide a safe place for you to start your healing journey. I believe we can all become better versions of ourselves. There are moments in life where you feel depressed, experience anxiety, or go through a rough patch and you need to talk with someone who will listen without judgment. These emotions are part of everyone's life experiences.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in East Lansing?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
