My clients include adults and adolescents age 16 and up from throughout the metro area.
Clients often decide to meet with a therapist when they have situations in their lives that they cannot seem to work through on their own. Many of them have tried talking to friends or relatives, but still feel stuck. I will help you look at problems in ways which will help you move in a direction that makes sense for you. I work closely with clients to help them resolve their concerns and problems in an environment which is confidential and nonjudgmental. Many of my clients say they begin to feel better after the first session.

I have been in practice for 20 years working with Adults and Adolescents struggling with PTSD, OCD, Attachment issues, Borderline Personality Disorder, Anxiety, Depression, Phobias, Couples Therapy, Eating Disorders and ADHD.
I AM NOT THE SMILE AND NOD THERAPIST! If you are fed up with feeling miserable I can help you get the life you want. I love helping people achieve what they didn't think they could. My clients tell me I am tough but they know I care about them. I work best with people who are sick of being unhappy and willing to DO work to make some changes. I have a great BS detector, I will call you on your stuff and we will laugh (a lot)! I am passionate about therapy and assissting people in reaching their goals. I work best with people who are ready for change and want a more active approach to therapy.

I enjoy teaching adults and children how to take control of their lives in mind, body, and spirit to navigate a stressful world .
I believe all clients hold the key to their own success and can be guided to that end in a safe, trusting, honest environment. Building relationship and skills for growth, understanding and healing are among my goals in therapy. My personal journey through adoption, trauma, abuse, raising a child with mental health concerns, spiritual enlightenment, natural mental health, divorce, and remarriage have become the gifts I share though therapy. I believe the keys essential to reaching any goal lies within each of us believing in ourselves and knowing that someone also believes in us.

Play therapy has been found beneficial for kids, teens, and adults.
If you are here, you might see yourself as an individual experiencing anxiety, depression, or trauma. You might be a parent of a child or teen with big emotions. Maybe you are a member of the LGBTQ+ community. All are welcome! As a therapist, I check my ego at the door to bring curiosity and humor to the environment to help you heal. I am a gender, sexuality, and neurodivergent affirmative therapist. I hold an MA in Marriage and Family Therapy from Saint Mary's University of Minnesota. I am supervised by Jody Goldie, LMFT as I head towards a license in Marriage and Family Therapy and a Registered Play Therapist credential.

Are you or your loved one autistic, feeling misunderstood or experiencing related challenges? Do you need a therapist who understands your family and your unique situation? If you are a neurodivergent adult or parenting an autistic child and are looking for a safe place to process your feelings, address trauma, improve communication or problem solve daily challenges, I would be honored to help. As both an experienced therapist and a parent of an autistic young adult, I understand how autism, anxiety or ADHD impacts you and your family.

Some people find themselves feeling stuck with certain thoughts and feelings. Others find themselves repeating behaviors that lead to unproductive and problematic situations in their life. Therapy is a process where these concerns can be discussed and worked through from a nonjudgmental standpoint. My therapeutic approach is to assist you in reaching your personal or relationship goals with more effective ways of being. The adolescents and adults I work with are understood as individuals that have their own unique attitudes, beliefs, and experiences.

I work with adults, adolescents and children in individual, marriage and family therapy.
I've helped many clients work through difficult challenges they're facing and would like to help you too. I have a very straight forward, assertive and somewhat irreverent communication style. We work hard, bravely dig as deep as we need to and have some belly laughs along the way. My clients appreciate how real and raw it can get, they feel free to share the good, bad and the ugly. If you're ready to be a good student I am a good teacher = Let's roll up our sleeves?!

While he works with adults, he also is very gifted with working with teens and adults.
Honestly, he’s a really great guy. Chris is the type of therapist that can help you work through some real, heavy stuff, but he can also have you laughing right after (He does improv comedy. Like, what? Awesome!). And, as he would say, "But, I’m also hardcore nerdy and love building an authentic, lighthearted relationship with clients. I love to talk video games, the MN Twins, comedy, and anything alternative. So, I dig it all.”

Does insurance cover therapy, prescriptions and other behavioral health services?

In general, yes. Laws in the U.S. require insurers to cover essential behavioral health care at the same level as other health care services. Most health plans require a medical diagnosis and treatments that are evidence based and medically essential. This means that life coaching and alternative therapies are not covered, nor is therapy without a diagnosis. Call the number on the back or your insurance card or visit your insurance company's website to review your Summary of Benefits. If you have insurance through your employer, your Human Resources department may also be able to answer questions.

How much does therapy cost with insurance?

The cost of therapy depends on your region, how much training and experience your therapist has, and the type of treatment. The rate for talk therapy generally falls between $100 and $250. For a client seeing an in-network provider, the cost of therapy is often similar to the cost of other health care services. Clients pay co-pays and may need to satisfy a plan’s deductible before benefits kick in.

What is the difference between In-Network and Out-of-Network insurance coverage?

An in-network provider has contracted with an insurer to get paid directly for services, and to accept the insurer’s rate of compensation. Clients are responsible for deductibles and copays. If a therapist is out of network, that means that the client pays the therapist directly for services at the therapist’s regular fee. Out-of-Network providers often give clients a receipt so that they can file for partial reimbursement with their insurance company.

Is it difficult to find an In-Network therapist?

It is not unusual for therapists to limit the number of insurance patients in their practice, so it’s important to check in-network availability when you schedule your first appointment. In regions and times where therapy is in high demand it may take longer to get scheduled with an in-network therapist.

What is the difference between HMO and PPO insurance plans?

HMO health plans only cover in-network services, there is no reimbursement for out-of-network providers. PPO plans often cover both in- and out-of-network services, though the client may pay more for out-of-network services.

What is a Superbill?

A superbill is a receipt for therapy services. It provides all the information required by insurance companies to reimburse you for out-of-network services, including the diagnostic codes for your care, the amount paid, and the dates and duration of care.

Does insurance cover Online therapy?

Many therapists who shifted their practice to online therapy during the pandemic have kept that arrangement. And most insurers continue to cover telehealth services, with a few exceptions. Preventive care (such as an annual depression screening) is often required to be in-person to be covered, and some states require prescribers of controlled substances to see those patients in person.

Does insurance cover Group therapy?

Many insurance plans provide coverage for group therapy provided there is a medical diagnosis for group members, but there are some noteworthy exceptions. For example, Medicare does not always cover group therapy. Group therapy tends to cost less than individual therapy.

Does insurance cover Couples therapy?

Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of couples therapy because there is no medical diagnosis or medically necessary treatment. However, a few plans will offer a limited benefit, so it is still worth checking with your insurance company. Sometimes therapy is covered for a couple when one person has a diagnosis and another family member joins them for joint therapy, but it is considered therapy for the medical condition that includes a family member as a listener or helper, not couples counseling. Without insurance, most clients pay between $100-300 per 60-90 min session for couples therapy. Often clients can find classes or workshops that make it more affordable to work on their relationship. And some employers offer benefit plans that help defray the cost of couples therapy.
