There are two things that I have learned about therapy over the years as both a client and a therapist: 1) Therapy takes “work”! This “work” looks different for folx because we are on our unique journeys- this is okay! 2) Healing is not linear. Meaning, you may experience a range of feelings, thoughts, and reactions on your healing journey- this is okay! My primary modes of therapy include emotionally focused, attachment, narrative, and cognitive-behavioral therapy. I practice being mindful of each client's uniqueness and customize the therapeutic encounter based on what is needed. I know this may change weekly, and I strive to be flexible enough to follow the client while providing a solid direction for change.

I’ve worked in many capacities including corrections, child welfare, health care, and more. The complexities of substance abuse, sexual trauma, dysfunction within a family, and mental health are some of many issues that individuals I’ve worked along side have faced. Through those different journeys, I found I really enjoy helping people! Going thru some of the darkest times of your life shouldn’t be spent alone. I love providing a safe space, one without judgement or worry to others while guiding them with evidence-based practices.

Having trouble dealing with anxiety, loneliness or need someone to listen without judgment, I may be the right therapist for you. I am open to working with adults from a variety of backgrounds and challenges. As an African American from a low-income background, I am inspired to help individuals cope with systemic issues affecting your identity. As a former student from Western Michigan University, my experience with people from different countries, spiritual beliefs or sexual orientations is an open privilege to learn from. My approach as an advocate and assistant navigator, I will work with you to meet your goals.

My mission is to provide evidence-based mental health services, education and advocacy in an integrative and holistic way (Biopsychosocial and spiritual) in order to bring about healing and transformation in individuals, families and communities. My career emphasis is on anxiety, depression, substance abuse issues, sexual addictions, sexual trauma, co-occurring disorders, and mid-life issues. I am a cross-culturally competent counselor who highly values and respects cultural differences. I am also committed to life-long learning and being able to make sound ethical decisions within diverse cultural contexts.

Our therapists are skilled in working with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, and life transitions. Hi there! My name is MyKailah, but I go by Kailah! I value holding space and providing a safe and non-judgmental environment for my clients. I have found myself devoted to serving Minority individuals, college-aged students experiencing mental health concerns (specifically dealing with anxiety, low self-esteem, worry/stress, or depressive thoughts), as well as individuals experiencing social or interpersonal relationship concerns. I strive to empower, support, and educate individuals to lead their most authentic and beautiful lives.

Every day is an opportunity to make change. But as we all know, life has a way of getting to the best of us. My goal is to meet you where you are and provide an affirming and safe place for change to occur. By the end of every session, my goal is that you walk away feeling heard, supported, and able to engage authentically with your environment. Welcome! I am glad you are here. As a mental health professional, I provide support and intervention for a variety of psychological, career, academic, and relational experiences across the lifespan to diverse persons. This includes services to individuals, various partner structures, families, and groups. My work centers on decolonization and destigmatization of mental health services with emphasis on culturally-affirming care. As such, I identify as a LGBTQIA+, Kink, Disability, and Gender Affirming provider. The experiences of marginalized, minoritized, and disenfranchised communities remain at the forefront of my clinical work.

My clinical treatment experiences have included work with children diagnosed with a developmental delay, children and caregivers who have experienced trauma, I am trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy, & Child-Parent Psychotherapy, young adults children who have experienced intense stress, trauma, physical or emotional separation from loved ones, and/or loss. I aim to strengthen the protective factors found within these primary relationships.
