I believe that people can change at any point in life, but sometimes lack the self-understanding, skills and belief in self to do so. In therapy, a person can take time away from the rush and demands of life in order to figure these things out, make plans for change and most importantly, implement change. I want to help clients develop their own skills (self-efficacy) to continue to grow outside a therapeutic setting. I have 30 years of experience in the mental health field working with a very wide range of psychological concerns.
I have a specialization in addiction and value helping those struggling to find answers to break the cycle that is so harmful to them and those around them. I respect the value of 12 step recovery for clients who want to use the ideals to address further growth in therapy and am also open and familiar with other recovery concepts.
I am incredibly straightforward in session and at the same time highly compassionate. While I challenge my clients, I also help them identify and use strengths as part of therapy. There is no room for judgment, only understanding and cooperatively working toward desired outcomes.
