After 14 years of teaching high school and serving in the USAF, Texas Air National Guard, Naval and Army Reserves consecutively, I decided to switch gears and become a counselor. Despite taking 20 years to make up my mind about which military branch to serve in, I was sure about the decision to be a counselor and attended Dallas Seminary to train as a secular and Christian therapist. In addition to the above, I have experience in working with married couples, kids (8 to 80), people going through divorce (having suffered one myself), persons struggling with addictions and trauma victims.
Divorce is devastating emotionally, financially, socially and spiritually. For children there is evidence that it has a lifelong and often negative impact on them. Helping couples identify and unlearn poor communication skills and replace them with healthy and adult methods of relating to one another, a successful marriage can result.
I have worked with victims of trauma caused by various experiences: combat, shootings, traffic accidents and sexual or physical abuse. With many clients I have utilized a technique called EMDR and found that it has brought them significant relief from their emotional pain and improved their quality of life.
