I (maybe like you?) have moved through a life that has not always been kind, easy, or safe. I was fortunate to find counselors who helped me reprocess and heal, and form a healthier, more secure sense of self. Through this personal work I became inspired to become a counselor and support others in similar ways.

Trauma is any adverse experience that causes extreme emotional reaction: nightmares, flashbacks, anxiety etc. When meeting with me many reach their destination feeling guilty for their response to their unique experience — because its “less than” others. As we begin the journey to health and recovery, I assure all that their individual experience is different and unique. Our goal is to get to the point where you know that your feelings/emotions are not better or worse than another’s, as all individuals have a right to their feelings. No trauma is better, worse, harder or easier than another because it depends on how we react.

I personally believe in my clients' innate ability to heal and in their capacity to do so. I have a special interest in working with kids 10+ years old, teenagers, couples and families, but also enjoy working with individuals across the lifespan. I have experience treating those experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, life transitions, ADHD, women's issues, grief, marital and family issues. My therapeutic approach combines person centered therapy with aspects of cognitive behavioral (CBT), solutions focused, and dialectical-behavioral (DBT) therapies. I begin with the belief that everyone is perfectly imperfect rather than the notion that there is something "wrong" with you which needs to be "fixed". Starting the moment you were born you began to accumulate experiences from your family, community, and society. Some experiences were likely nurturing and beautiful and others were likely quite painful and challenging. Your accumulated experiences have shaped you and helped you develop mechanisms for coping, some of which no longer serve you.
