Dr. Whitney Mascaro (she/her) is a compassionate and dedicated psychologist with a strong commitment to serving clients from diverse backgrounds. With expertise in a variety of therapeutic approaches, she primarily works from emotion-focused and attachment-based orientations. Depending on each person’s unique needs, she incorporates CBT, ACT, DBT, and IFS interventions. Dr. Mascaro specializes in working with individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, self-harm, chronic suicidality, trauma, survivors of violence, complex PTSD, relationship concerns, and sexual identity/LGBTQIA+ concerns.

Established over 10 years ago, we originally opened as Prince William Family Counseling and provided the community with trustworthy therapy services in a safe, welcoming environment. In 2015 the agency was purchased and took on new ownership and we became Woodbridge Therapy Group. With the recent change in ownership, we have expanded our number of providers, added more services, and renewed our investment in the community.

I am a Culturally competent Psychotherapist with over 15 years of experience working with diverse populations providing treatment using various evidence-based, person-centered treatment modalities. I do not believe in stigmatizing or judging people, nor do I believe that people "are" their diagnosis. I am especially interested in serving children, adults, and adolescents with depression, anxiety, PTSD, schizophrenia, and Bi-Polar disorder. I have experience with providing Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). I take an interpersonal approach to treatment, with a special focus on individualized care that is based on research. I also offer trauma-informed and spiritually-integrated services.

I strive to create an environment to support children and adults, to improve their lives by having more enjoyable relationships. I like to provide my patients the required tools to succeed in life. I have loved to serve the community and use my natural ability to empathize. I received my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in May 2015. Since my graduation, I have been performing psychological evaluations and therapy for patients of all ages, gathering a broad base of experience.

The Virginia Institute of Pastoral Care is a pastoral counseling center open to everyone. There is a place for you here— whether you practice a faith tradition or are searching, whether you are looking for support as you take the next steps in your life or you feel sad, stuck or unhappy. Our counselors are trained mental health professionals, many of whom are also practicing clergy. But we don’t preach: we listen. We offer counseling for children, families, couples, and adults including seniors. Group therapy services are also available.
