Hello! I am a licensed master social worker supervised by LCSW-S Sarah Herrera. With 10 years experience in the social services field I have had the opportunity to work within a variety of individuals and systems. Through each of these experiences I have gained knowledge and insight on how these systems affect everyday life. I provide individualized therapy services to children, adults, couples, and families with a focus on creating and fostering the supportive relationships that can help during stressful moments. I believe in fostering healing and hope while providing a safe space for every individual to feel heard and validated.

Relationships can be difficult to navigate, both with others and with oneself, and not having the right tools can make a difficult job even more challenging. Add to this day-to-day life events and unprocessed trauma, and it can be easy to feel like things will not get better, leaving you feeling empty and hopeless. I want to be there on your journey by holding the space for you, helping you process your thoughts and feelings, learning who you are and what you need, and supporting you as you learn new skills, strengthen the ones you already have, process your trauma safely, and develop and/or nurture healthy relationships.

There’s a lingering discomfort when you enter a new environment. You feel on edge- wavering between the desire to live authentically yet trying to hide just enough to go unnoticed. The guard you built up for protection from unsolicited looks or critical remarks is getting too heavy. You’re exhausted from the constant worries of facing rejection from those around you. The harmful comments against the LGBTQIA+ community startle you backward towards “the closet”- the tribulation of your sense of self-sacrifice for the comfort of others. Even though you fight hard to regain your autonomy, it’s difficult to claim that pride alone.

My goal is always to make sure my client's leave my office more aware and hopefully more confident that their lives are evolving toward more helpful and connected ways of living. I challenge my clients to examine their habits, lifestyle, and consistency of positive self regard.

The world we live in is challenging, and our attention is pulled in so many different directions that it is easy to lose touch with our own inner guidance and wisdom. We can find ourselves overwhelmed, distracted, exhausted, and disconnected from what brings us a sense of stability, purpose, and contentment in our lives. It is my desire to help you reconnect, discover, and explore what is truly meaningful for you, what brings you the most peace and ease, and to make authentic changes, so that you can navigate the challenges and joys of your life with awareness, courage, and a strong sense of self.

I have been in practice 16-years and have opened my service area thanks to Google Meet & Facetime. I became a therapist (I have a dual degree in both individual & family therapy) after beginning my own work over 2 decades ago. I see therapy as a tool, a valuable asset that helps us to pull from our history and present the things that work so our future can be everything we want.

The world can be a scary place, and I hope to provide you with a safe space to express your emotions. My goal is for you to feel validated and heard, no matter what your presenting concerns may be. Welcome! I'm so glad you are here. If you feel out of place or disconnected, together we can begin to cultivate awareness and intentionality so that you can live life as your most authentic self; and if you're still figuring out who that is, you're in the right place. Counseling is a collaborative process, so I seek to meet you where you are at and walk alongside you in your humanness. My approach is person-centered and trauma-informed, meaning I center your safety and comfort. I typically work with people who have experienced trauma, LGBTQ+ folks, and anyone experiencing significant life transitions.

There are so many situations where people do not feel heard or understood, which is why it is my first goal in therapy to establish a safe and collaborative environment with all of my clients, regardless of age or concern. I am devoted to meeting my clients where they are in their mental health journey and viewing them with a compassionate, holistic lens in order to better understand their lived experiences. This kind of warm, safe, and non-judgemental relationship is the cornerstone to my approach to therapy.

I am a mixed race (black and white) clinician and feel this gives me a unique perspective to mental health. Life can be mentally, emotionally, and physically exhausting. Trauma (racial, religious, or anywhere in between), work stress, marital strife, parenting woes and the like can at times feel magnified and the weight feels heavy, but I see you. Life is full of ups and downs and mental health can keep us feeling great or wanting to crawl into a dark hole. Sometimes we need to vent and have someone quietly listen, feel seen and validated, get practical advice or be taught practical ways to manage our emotions in real time.

Great communication starts with a great connection. I have been working with individuals and couples since 2015, and I can help you move through and heal the hurt so you can get back to having a life of love and intimacy. It's really easy to fall into the trap of thinking that we are supposed to go it alone and having other people walking alongside us can feel vulnerable. Life is full of challenges; everything from parenting, to work stress, to finding the balance between work, life, and play. Things don't always need to be take overly seriously, and sometimes the best treatment is finding something to laugh about.

Complex trauma often manifests in chronic pain being held in the body. As a trauma counselor who specializes in working with people who experience Chronic Illness, Fatigue, and Pain, I aim to bring both your mind and body peace. As a former EMT, I witnessed the invalidation and exhaustion that can come from simply trying to “prove” your diagnoses to people who just don’t understand. I believe you. I am in your corner, and will work with you towards reducing medical anxiety, processing diagnoses and loss, and living a full life outside of doctor appointments. Passions of mine include working with adolescents and adults, LGBTQ+ population, complex trauma, dissociation, DID, eating disorders, and substance use/abuse.

Jean graduated with my MSW from Edinboro University. She has spent her professional life being a part of the helping relationship. Jean had the opportunity to work at the forensic unit, domestic violence shelter, addiction facility, and as a clinical program director for an adolescent facility. She values learning from my clients as well as sharing the knowledge.
