My practice is with couples and adult individuals. Some of the clients I work with have sexual concerns and/or relational problems. I have worked with all kinds of couples who have been together two weeks to fifty years including same sex and heterosexual couples. I am an active therapist and tailor interventions to your style. Each person is unique,and I don't believe that one size fits all. I also believe in the power of humor. The Hudson Valley Center for Development is a Mt. Sinai associated mental health services practice created in 2007 to meet the emotional needs of adults, children, adolescents, and families in Orange County and the lower Hudson Valley. Our warm and experienced staff provide in person psychotherapy and tele-therapy.

Dr. Michele Winchester-Vega and Associates is a group private practice with over 10 LICENSED professionals that specialize in a variety of modalities and treatment specialties. Treatment is offered to those aged 6 and above and individual, family and group modalities are available. We are involved in teaching and hold faculty positions as well as providing consultation/ supervision to other professionals.

I am a clinical psychologist who has been practicing for about 25 years. I am very invested in the work I do and I believe my clients feel that from me. I work with people in a compassionate, nonjudgmental way. I am currently a candidate at the NYU Postdoctoral Program for Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis. My practice is on the Upper West Side and I am treating people in person and via telehealth. I see people for assessments, in individual therapy as well as couples therapy. I also am beginning some groups (see below).

My philosophy on therapy is based on the power of introspection, understanding our relationships with others, and the knowledge that we all have the capacity to make changes in our lives. My belief is that my role as a therapist is to help you explore yourself in the setting of a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental environment. I will help you understand yourself better in the context of all of your relationships both past and present, and we will work together to help you make the changes you seek in life. Most importantly, I want to help you find a sense of peace in becoming your most authentic self.

I'm a trans, queer, Mexican-American therapist who works from an attuned, responsive, and relationship oriented approach. As all of us have a tendency to get lost in a narrative or storyline, I invite clients to slow down with me and get intimate with their direct experience—the raging emotions in the body, the coming and going of thoughts, the feeling of shaky vulnerability, the rage, the loneliness—honoring it all and creating a safe holding space for these lost emotions, perhaps for the first time ever. In addition to psychotherapy, I offer end-of-life support, and coaching.

I believe in utilizing psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral therapy. However, my practice also focuses on changing the neural pathways that can become distorted when we experience trauma. With the help of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Trauma Focused CBT, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, we can work to heal childhood trauma, adult PTSD, and distorted thinking that limits joy and growth in your life. Additionally, I have experience with supporting clients with cognitive integration after a psychedelic treatment. I can support you in taking control of both your body and mind.

Change can often be scary and/or difficult however necessary to achieve inner peace, counseling can help move forward the process to achieve mental health. Wellness is key and in our conversations I explore your values during counseling therapy sessions. We do explore all aspects of life that are important including physical, mental, emotional, financial, and spiritual health. Typically our initial counseling sessions conversations are casual, it is a platform to ensure that I am the right fit for you.

My clients want to improve mood, self-esteem, relationships, sleeping habits, etc., and come to realize that something happens within the client/therapist relationship that does not happen alone. My typical client shows improvement within a few months, and then eventually meets with me less frequently (for 'tune-ups'). And, my clients sometimes return to sessions with me after leaving therapy, if things begin to go awry.

I am passionate about relationship dynamics, sexuality, sexual orientation, gender identity, communication and intimacy with a focus on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I counsel individuals, couples and moresomes on creative relationship structures such as consensual non-monogamy. I also work extensively with mood related challenges, including anxiety, depression and OCD, as well as career transitions. As a member of the polyamorous, LGBTQ, and burner communities, I share my extensive personal and professional experience with clients.

I know change is possible, I've seen this with countless clients and can guide you in reaching your goals. I have over 10 years experience helping individuals reach their mental health goals and improve their relationships. If you're struggling with your partner or struggling yourself, there is hope.
