I believe therapy provides options for change, in a safe nonjudgemental environment, and change is the catalyst for personal growth. Through empathy, supportive listening, and a partnership of learning, I can help you to understand and overcome your emotional struggles, helping you to develop positive coping skills, achieve greater emotional stability, self-esteem and self-respect.
I have over 30 years experience working with individuals suffering from depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and/or substance abuse. Emotional instability impairs our thinking and behavior dramatically. Drugs and alcohol create false realities and self-images, interfering with underlying issues and the ability to gain insight and change.
My approach is client-centered and eclectic, using different theoretical approaches to best suit the client and the moment. For example, cognitive-behavioral therapy changes negative thought patterns which determine how we feel and act. Change these and you can change the behaviors/feelings which have produced negative, often painful outcomes.
