I am Dan Silitsky, Ph.D. and a New Jersey Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who believes that all individuals have the innate ability to be empowered in making informed decisions about their present situation. It will be my privilege to offer my expertise and sensitive style to those individuals, couples and family members who wish to pursue their life's dreams without undue stress.

I have seen a wide range of clients struggling with many of lifes challenges. I approach their concerns individually with warmth, knowledge, and compassion. Initially, I started out as a child therapist but then went on to study 5 years of post graduate work in adult psychoanalysis. Today I work with all populations. More recently I have been focusing my studies and practice on the trauma of living through a pandemic.

I'm a unique therapist that treats a wide array of mental health disorders. We focus on resolving past and current issues/trauma, finding solutions and eliciting organic change. If we are not solving your problems, I am wasting your time. My practice goes far beyond talk therapy, we do work. We explore childhood, adolescent and other lifetime experiences that impact our psychological functioning. To permanently resolve our disorders we must revisit and resolve these thoughts, feelings and events. I utilize DBT as part of my treatment approach and we engage from the first minute we meet.

It Takes a Family borrows from an ancient African Proverb, "It takes a village to raise a child" which teaches the eternal truth that no man, woman, family or community is an island. ITAF believes in approaching sound mental health holistically and collectively knowing that a collaborative effort with families empowers communities to raise children that build positive societies. Courage. That is what I hear when I am contacted for consultation. We collaborate in a supportive environment to face challenges like being single (again), grief, strengthening a marriage, #MeToo, anxiety, codependency, impostor syndrome or burnout. Together, we understand and transform barriers that block you from what you want in life. I have extensive training in the treatment of trauma/neglect. I have experience working with people from a variety of ethnicities, religious/spiritual backgrounds and sexual orientations. We will mindfully, focus on the present and briefly visit the past when it is influencing the present.

Jane has a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling and a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. Prior to starting in the mental health field 6 years ago, Jane spent 27 years working in long term care and ran grief and loss and caregiver support groups. Jane also has experience working with the special needs population and has an adult son with Autism so she has personal experience advocating for this population and an understanding of the challenges faced by this population and their families.

Footprints was started by a therapist who realized that often times the services provided to low socio-economic communities is lacking quality care. We noticed these communities were confronted with long wait times, disrespectful admins, and subpar treatment. The one and only purpose was to exploit the community for profit without providing the level of care deserved. Footprints began from the inspiration to provide quality mental health care to the poorest of communities and treating the clients of this community the same way a rich patient would be treated in a clinic treating affluent clients.
