I believe we each have a core part of ourselves that is wise, confident, and desiring of secure connection with others. Single event or repeated traumatic experiences can distance us from this core part and we can find ourselves using coping mechanisms, such as excessive substance use and other self-harming behaviors, that no longer serve us or our relationships. Identifying the needs we are desperately trying to meet and exploring alternate ways to meet them can disrupt the cycle that keeps us feeling defeated and lead us towards more fulfilling relationships with ourselves and those we care about.
In addition to use of evidence-based treatment modalities, including EMDR, Internal Family Systems, somatic therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy, I place a great deal of importance on the therapeutic relationship itself as a source of trust, collaboration, and commitment.
While each person’s specific therapeutic goals vary, I find most of us ultimately desire a sense of belonging and purpose. My hope is that, in our work together, you will feel heard, understood, and, with time, comfortable being your true self both in therapy and in your everyday life.
