Founded in 1983 specifically to serve the LGBTQ+ community, back when most practitioners viewed it as a mental illness, we are still trailblazers, working with trans/GNC folks, bi/pansexuals, the kink/BDSM community, consensual nonmonogamists, and others who make up the "Q+" in LGBTQ+. You may not want therapy because you are gay, but you likely want a therapist who is not only affirming but knowledgeable. We understand the special issues of LGBTQ+ individuals, couples, and families, and we provide sex therapy as well.

If you are struggling with day to day stress, need help sorting your thoughts, need help formulating goals or learning better coping skills or even if you have been struggling with chronic mental health issues, we are here to help you meet your individual goals. We work with clients to develop an individualized treatment plan to ensure that individual needs are being met. We utilize a variety of therapeutic techniques with a client centered strengths-based approach. I've worked in the mental health field for over 25 years and provide psychotherapy and consultation services to those in NY and NJ. Having worked in a variety of settings, including hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and community counseling clinics, I specialize in treating emotion dysregulation, addictions, mood and anxiety disorders, and in helping clients develop coping and resilience. I've served as president for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s NJ Chapter and am currently a Staff Psychologist at Montclair State University's Counseling and Psychological Services.

My goal is to support and empower you on your journey towards increased connection with your body, your mind, and with others. I specialize in working with individuals struggling with eating disorders, disordered eating, and body image concerns as well as specializing in treating symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, and substance use disorders. I strongly believe in meeting clients where they are with a non-judgmental and affirming approach. I view clients as the experts of their own lives and believe that the therapeutic process should be collaborative.

Dr. Shirin Zarqa-Lederman is a counseling psychologist specializing in trauma services and community psychology, holding a PhD in the field. She is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) and licensed clinical drug and alcohol counselor (LCADC) based in New Jersey, working with clients globally. Prior to establishing her private practice, Dr. Shirin was a program coordinator for a NJ adolescent substance abuse program, where she developed treatment curriculum for group and family therapy. Later, she worked as a community liaison for this program and three others in New York, coordinating psychiatric and substance abuse care.

Deborah's career in addictions counseling began in 1992 at Eugenia Psychiatric Hospital. There she was a vital member of the "Safe Haven" staff; specializing in providing an environment of healing for sexually abused and addicted women. Her specialty groups consisted of issues related to addiction, sexual abuse, eating disorders and anger management. Her work at Eugenia also included extensive counseling with adolescents as well as the general population. Deborah's commitment to those suffering from addictions led her to Villanova University, where she achieved her Certification in Addictions Counseling.

I have worked extensively with adults and adolescents for over 30 years and have a good understanding of childhood issues.I work with individuals and families with a focus on emotions.I believe that all people have resources to solve problems.I am easy to talk to and I have great listening skills.I have worked with individuals who are depressed and with adolescents in public education with great success I also have an extensive background in substance abuse and am certified to work with clients on Suboxone (Buprenorphine) for treatment of opiate addiction.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, working in the field of mental health for 20 years. I received a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Fordham University. I hold a Post-Master’s certificate in Clinical Practice with Adolescents at New York University. I am specialized in the area of substance abuse, holding a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor certification. I have significant experience in adolescent mental health and family conflict, working with both the adolescent individually and family collectively.

Seeing a therapist may bring painful emotions to the surface, but seeking therapy doesn't have to be a painful thing.

At The Sexuality, Attachment, and Trauma Project, we provide identity-affirming care for all communities. Our patients are people, not problems, and we work with each person differently. We treat a range of issues related to sexuality and gender. These include out-of-control sexual behavior, sometimes labeled sex addiction (although we’re not fans of labels). Patients also come to us for intimacy anxiety, sexual compulsivity, gender and orientation confusion, LGBTQ+ issues, and family trauma.

Adrienne is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW-R) practicing psychotherapy and providing clinical consultation in New York, New Jersey, Nebraska, and Florida. She is a warm, attentive therapist who works with you to determine your individual needs and goals and to help you move toward finding clarity, healing, and happiness. Adrienne’s interest in counseling began as a volunteer on The Trevor Project’s suicide prevention and crisis intervention lifeline. Her early career focused on working with LGBTQIA+ youth at The Ali Forney Center before transitioning to an outpatient hospital clinic for adolescents and adults with HIV/AIDS.
