I work people of all ages in individual or groups with a range of concerns including Depression, Anxiety, Trauma, Family, and related issues. I have worked in residential settings helping children and youth dealing with trauma and now work with this population on telehealth and in office. I am able to integrate the Christian faith into the counseling session for those who appreciate that perspective.

ONLINE COUNSELING AVAILABLE Therapy is where you can say the words that aren't allowed to be said. While I see clients who are struggling with a variety of issues (depression; anxiety; relationship difficulties; and questions of meaning, purpose, and self), I specialize in working with those who have experienced religious trauma - those who have been deeply hurt by the messages they received as part of their religious experience and have not felt the freedom to tell their story. Clergy and laity alike need space to express and reflect upon their hurt, their sadness, their anger, their disappointment, and their doubts.

Jamie uses a multicultural, solutions focused based (SFBT) therapy approach and is dedicated to cultivating a supportive, inclusive and engaging environment that allows clients to reach their fullest potential. She has experience working with the LGBTQI+ community, religious and ethnic minority groups.

The saying, "It is the relationship that heals," guides my work with clients. I aim to be the skilled confidant that accompanies them as they gain insight into their situation and who they are as an individual. Growing in self understanding helps them make decisions they can incorporate in their life and make their own. Their "new normal" becomes a way of life as they grow to employ the new tools they've gained in therapy. My ideal clients do not want psychological platitudes in the form of advice but want to be stretched and challenged.

I look forward to working with clients whose life path may have created difficulties for them that has led them not be the best of who they can be. Each individual's path may have been sprinkled with physical or emotional abuse, neglect, assault, grief and loss, domestic violence, marital or parental discord or a myriad of other situations. Sometimes these life paths create in my clients a feeling of hopeless and loss of self-worth, sometimes these path end with someone needing to determine a plan to leave an unsafe living situation. Sometimes these paths lead to turning to substances and illegal drugs to cope with the internal turmoil and pain. It is my privlege to work with clients to help them identify and bring forth the best of who they are and what they want for their life, their family and their future through their own individual strengths.

My goal for therapy is to make each client feel safe to share his or her life story in order to begin healing. I view the therapeutic process as a joint effort in which I collaborate with my client(s) to find the best approach to resolve any current struggles.

It is my belief that therapy is most effective when those involved allow themselves to be impacted by right relationship with the other. Only through right relationship, co-regulation and genuine empathy can true healing occur.

Honestly it's not for everyone, but there are many benefits, including you can meet me from anywhere, assuming you have internet access and some privacy! I have special interest in working with those in helping and teaching professions. I also particularly enjoy working with parents or guardians wanting to learn and practice different parenting techniques or are just in need of additional support; I often see people who need an objective person to bounce ideas off of or are realizing the best way to help their child is to first work on their own mental health!

As a licensed psychologist, I provide adult individual and couples therapy. I specialize in treating people who may need to change unhealthy patterns in their life, improve their relationships, explore life events that are affecting well-being, discover past issues that may be causing difficulty, and many other issues. Although I work with clients who have many different types of problems, I am also an AASECT-certified sex therapist and work with sexual health concerns. I welcome LGBT clients.

Dr. Hertel provides both telepsychology and in-person sessions for patients ready to make change. Dr. Hertel has Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (APIT), holding a License in a PSYPACT state, and she can provide telepsychology to patients in designated, participatory PSYPACT states.

My job as a counselor is to help empower you and to work with you to find a solution to the problems you or your family are facing; whether it be anxiety, depression, or school/job related stressors, or you’re having relationship or family issues, I am here to help. I have worked with a wide variety of clients from the ages of 10 to 45 years old using individual, couples, and family therapy. Sometimes just having a judgement free place to talk can make all the difference when life stressors are impacting your daily functioning.
