Getting into the field in July 2020 has given me a unique set of skills to assist individuals through a range of adversity and trauma. During this time, I've worked with a variety of populations in different clinical settings to gain a wide array of experience. With you as my guide, we will find the resources you need within. My approach is gentle, warm, and supportive as I assist you to find solutions.

Dr. Judith (Judy) Ann Upshaw is a licensed substance use therapist who specializes in the treatment of substance and behavioral abuse disorders, anxiety disorders, depression, and trauma. She practices individual, group, family, and couples therapists. Dr. Upshaw received a M. Ed. in Psycho-educational Processes from Temple University, and a Ed. D. in Counseling Psychology from Argosy University. She takes an active person-centered approach to therapy and makes room for personal exploration, questioning, and collaborative problem solving.

As your therapist I will work carefully and thoughtfully to assist you in addressing the issues that have brought you pain, fear, uncertainty or self-doubt. The individuals I work with may have a history of trauma, challenging life circumstances or anxiety and depression. As a Queer therapist and spiritual companion, I like to do things a little differently. At this time in my career, I’m mostly working with beloved humans who are bravely journeying through deconstructing their religion of origin and are wanting to explore a spirituality beyond religion. I’m doing this because it was part of my story and was a life-altering transformation I wrestled on my own. The good news for me was coming out the other side as my truest self, and with a new expansive spirituality that feeds my seeker-soul and fills me with awe and wonder (without the rules and guilt/shame). I have worked at elementary school working with children, middle school & high school working with teens, university students working with young adults, community mental health centers working with adults, and a hospice setting working with mostly elders, providing individual, couples, family, group-therapy including bereavement counseling.
