I work with individuals who have experienced mild to severe levels of trauma with a single diagnosis to comorbid diagnoses, such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder , Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Bipolar 1 Disorder, Anxiety Disorder, Borderline Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, Attention Hyperactive Deficit Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, etc. Their needs are to be listened to, validated, and understood. They want to feel genuinely accepted. They want to live life to the fullest. Their goals are to receive the care needed to assist with improving quality of life.

As a mental health professional, I am here to walk with you into the unknown, to listen to your experiences, life changes, tragedies and joys and to listen without judgement. Whether you feel stuck from trauma, anger, navigating career changes, life stage changes, grief or relationship matters I will work with you to find recovery utilizing your strengths and support system. I believe in a fully holistic view of identifying mental health issues that may cause or compound physical ailments and work to release emotions that may cause pain.

Clients I work with have often undergone therapy, found it helpful and wish to continue their journey with another modality or they’ve not had a good experience and seek a style of therapy that is personalized and growth-oriented. Jungian therapy can provide profound insight into self, life purpose bridging your present situation with a more meaningful future. I’ve helped many people work through concerns like: depression, anxiety, life transitions, sexuality, divorce, grief. Whatever your concerns, we can work through them together. There is no standard therapy template. Each client undertakes a uniquely individual process.

Asking for help can be scary. It is my goal to normalize mental health struggles and seeking an outside perspective to learn and grow. I also believe that the understanding of oppression is an important part of therapy and recovery is a social justice issue. I'm a Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Clinical Addiction Counselor. I have been in the field for over 16 years. I aim to help you explore your own strengths and problem-solving strategies. I serve as a non-judgmental sounding board to help you explore things you would like to change. My goal is to work myself out of a job so you can get on with your life.

Hello! I'm Vanessa, co-owner of Secure Counseling Clinics. I've lived in KC for 20 years with my husband, 4 children, 3 dogs, 2 cats, 1 bearded dragon, and a flock of backyard chickens! I'm a Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in both MO and KS, Nationally Certified Counselor, Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor, and KS board-approved clinical supervisor. My heart work is helping humans with complex trauma. Couples, as well as parents and their children, work with me to form secure attachments with each other. I help clients experiencing relationship difficulties and those who experience pain from circumstances or losses.
