Life experiences shape the way individuals view themselves, their relationships, and their environment. Adverse experiences can leave individuals conflicted and overwhelmed. As a therapist it is my passion to support children and adults make sense of their experiences, understand their impact, and better connect with themselves.

You may come to see me for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it's the way you are feeling and other times it's an event or situation you find yourself in life. I have come to understand that what underlies our conscious concerns or problems is the root cause of our experience of sadness, anxiety, or general life dissatisfaction. We will work together in a trusting and respectful therapeutic relationship to better understand and work-through unresolved issues that are getting in the way for you. You deserve to feel better and have a fuller life experience.

Life. Have you done it before? Me either! As first timers, it is no surprise that we encounter challenges, experience hang-ups, and may occasionally find ourselves questioning which way the world is spinning. It’s okay. We’re new at this and we don’t have to have all of the answers. What I do know is that the ups, downs, and everything in between, are part of the human experience. I believe that therapy is a great place to navigate the questions that come with being human and gain insight to a better self-understanding.

Welcome to the Center for Relational Transformation. We are a group of relationship experts who can help you with any relationship issue or any psychological issue that stems from relational difficulties (depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, PTSD, neglect, abuse). Based on what we now know from the latest research in neuroscience, deep healing on a fundamental level is possible. Instead of just treating symptoms, we can cue up and facilitate "corrective emotional experiences" that can profoundly heal past hurt and trauma for both individuals and couples. You don't need to suffer any longer.

What's your definition of birthright? As we grow, family, culture, and society can assign meaning that does not serve our best interest but theirs. Devastatingly, we're often taught to point the finger back at ourselves when things go wrong. But I believe we heal and thrive when we nurture healthy intrinsic (fundamental to who we are) connection to ourselves and others. This work creates a safety net allowing us to build self-esteem and adapt without losing our personal power. Pursuing the arts with a former career as a performer, choreographer, and artistic director, I strongly relate to "fitting-in while trying to stand-out".

In my 25 years of practice, I have learned some important truths: what happened to us doesn’t have to determine what happens for us; under the right conditions, the human spirit orients toward growth and wholeness; therapy can be an important addition to the healing process. People come to therapy for many reasons, often the initial phase of the work is in improving coping strategies so you can feel better sooner. Beyond symptomology, understanding you and your unique context are essential for unearthing longstanding behavior patterns. Therapy is about revising your story and making you the author of the next chapter.

Does your past still haunt you? Do you find yourself struggling with past trauma, attachment issues or just your basic family baggage? Does your past make living in the present more difficult? Is it time to deal with those unresolved issues that are still impacting you? Clients come to me looking for a therapist who is more direct and will challenge them to understand themselves. I believe therapy is a place that you learn to make healthier decisions. When we know better we do better. Therapy doesn't have to be a life long journey but it needs to work!

Hello! My name is Arianna and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who believes everyone should feel seen, heard and affirmed. My priority as a therapist is to recognize the diverse cultural backgrounds of people with the goal of integrating that understanding into effective and respectful therapeutic interventions. Humans are social creatures, which leads us to be affected by relationships in profound ways. However, relationships are highly complex, and can, at times, be difficult to decipher, form, and maintain. My work with clients has been centered around the development of stronger and healthier relationships, and that work begins with creating and managing powerful bonds between therapist and client. I believe every relationship exists on its own terms and with its own nuances, and I strive to help others see the connections in their lives for what they are, instead of what they wish they were.

It takes great courage to live out our authentic selves, find wisdom underneath our emotions, and repair and transform relationships that are close to heart. I admire your strength and humanity. As a counseling psychologist, researcher, and professor, I received doctoral and postdoctoral training in individual, couple, family, and group psychotherapy. As an immigrant, I witness life and culture in its nuances and complexities. I believe (and research shows) that, built upon a safe and trusting relationship, therapy can effectively support people to find clarity, authenticity, and resolution through the richness of our life journeys.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Chicago?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
