Being a therapist is my second career. I know what it means to search to find a life that feels more meaningful. I have a master’s degree in counseling, completed a year-long immersion in narrative therapy, and have recently finished coursework for a PhD in social work focused on psychodynamic theory from ICSW. My psychodynamic training means I have experience in listening in a particular way. Gaining insight means learning to listen to ourselves in a deeper, more curious, and open way. Currently, I am studying the impact of dating apps on relationships for my dissertation. I understand that modern dating can feel like a landmine.
I work long-term, which allows us to establish a deep therapeutic relationship. This may mean the interpersonal problems that you experience will show up in the therapeutic relationship. Addressing this can be a way to shift what at first feel like immovable problems. This can be both a difficult and rewarding experience.
My social work and narrative therapy training broaden my view to systems that impact you. I believe if there were an easy solution or a book you could read to quickly change, you would have done it. Change is deeper than that. It can be difficult, and I’m willing to walk alongside you in allowing for what may feel intolerable, shameful, or unknown.
