Hello! My name is Heidi and I'm a mom and a veteran of the US Air Force. I enjoy meeting and working with people who want a better life for themselves and for their family. Life is stressful and many times situations or relationships are thrust upon us that we have little control over, but those who seek out help, who want to learn healthier ways to cope and who want relief from the rut of negative thought patterns or relationships are the people I'm here for. The only necessities are to reach out for help and be ready to start on your path to wellness!

Sometimes life is complicated and having a safe place to sort things out can be helpful. It is important to take time and address anything that may be affecting your wellbeing. Whether you are dealing with long term mental health issues, something more current, stress or changes in life, or with work or family, therapy is a great way to begin taking care of yourself. As our lives continue to grow and change it is easy to get overwhelmed and having the guidance of a trusted professional can make a difference in how you feel about yourself and your life.

I have expanded my hours and have immediate availability! We are bombarded daily with messages of stigma, judgments, injustices, -isms, and fear. Yet, wellness is possible. I believe wellness and personal growth are best pursued within a trusting, judgment-free, safe, open, empathic, and honest therapy relationship. To build those relationships, I'm fully committed to exploring and understanding each client's perspective, background, culture, values, lifestyle, and choices. In our work together, I hope to help my clients discover their strengths and learn the skills necessary to develop lives they want to live.

I love my work, and I feel fortunate to walk beside people like you who want a better life. It's incredibly fulfilling to see someone come out of the confusion and into a life of awareness and meaning. I combine evidence-based practices of western psychotherapy, mindfulness meditation and yoga to help people develop greater peace so that they can turn toward difficult feelings and find their own inner truth.

Some of us walk through life with a pervasive shadow of depression. We may experience frequent bouts of anxiety, or the overwhelming grief of a personal loss. We may not be able to shake our persistent negative thoughts, shame, worthlessness. We may live with intrusive thoughts that we cannot make sense of, and feel that the treatment being offered to us (often medication alone) doesn't address the deeper nature of our experiences, but simply masks symptoms temporarily. Or we may just feel stuck; like we're moving through the same old patterns, the ups and downs, barely holding on.

Meeting with a counselor requires a lot of courage, so I have great respect for anyone who wants to start that journey. I will provide a non-judgmental space for you to identify your areas of concern and ultimately what you hope to change. Our goal is to build awareness together, so that you can make different choices instead of automatically doing the same things that no longer support you. We will work together to help you pay greater attention to your mind and body processes (i.e., a holistic approach) to facilitate a deeper connection with yourself and others.

People possess an astonishing and incredible natural capacity to heal themselves both mentally and physically. But, many are not able to find their path through life's complex and sometimes painful questions. Therapy can be the catalyst for healing by peeling back the layers to find your innate, intuitive wisdom about yourself. My role as your therapist is to be your champion- to accept you and unconditionally support you, no matter what you are facing or experiencing.

I work with adults processing a variety of issues including trauma, grief, relationships, complicated life transitions, depression, anxiety, and more. We can tend to feel “stuck” during difficult periods of our lives, or even start to form negative beliefs about ourselves as a result of trauma. Thoughts such as “I’m not good enough”, “something is wrong with me”, or “I’m permanently damaged”, “I can’t trust myself or others” etc.

Taking care of our emotional well-being is one of the most important things we can do for ourselves, especially when we experience the highs and lows in life. With a little bit of support, I am a firm believer that everyone can navigate through these highs and lows, but sometimes we need a helping hand to do so. I look forward to being that helping hand in getting you to your highest potential and to navigate the new stages or events of life.

I believe therapy should be tailored as a unique experience to fit the client, just as each client is unique. I see the process of therapy as holding a safe and sacred space, where a therapeutic alliance is built between client and therapist, enabling clients to express themselves authentically, share their struggles, create goals, and overcome obstacles; leading each person to be the best version of themselves. As a therapist, I strive to be there each step of the way providing competence, support, and encouragement, to not only overcome obstacles, but to also help you find meaning in the journey.

Welcome! I want to start by saying thank you for taking a moment to visit and read about me and what I do. It is not easy when choosing a therapist to talk to about life’s struggles. It can be scary and overwhelming, but I believe that it is an empowering and brave start. My name is Erin and as a therapist I offer safe space for self-discovery, healing, and personal growth. I implement a strength-based and mindfulness approach with a strong belief that change and personal growth are possible, and that individuals are able to find their inner strength and work through life stressors and barriers to happiness.

Bipolar Disorder Therapists

What is the most successful approach to treating bipolar disorder?

Living with bipolar disorder can be challenging, and a number of therapies have been found effective in providing support to patients as they gain the skills to understand and manage the disorder. Family-focused therapy is often helpful for children and teens (the majority of cases develop before age 19); it aims to minimize mood cycling by improving family communication and reducing conflict. It also helps young people navigate the developmental challenges the disorder can create. Cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) and variants such as Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)help patients manage the thoughts and feelings that influence bipolar mood swings as well as develop specific behavioral strategies to counteract them.

What happens in therapy for bipolar disorder?

Because the patterns of mood switching and its triggers differ for each person and can change over time, mood tracking or monitoring becomes a basic way patients learn about the nature of their condition. One of the most common features of therapy is finding a workable method of mood monitoring, in which patients track their daily activities and rate their moods, then use the findings to adjust routines accordingly. Patients learn ways of handling the many stresses that arise in life so that they do not trigger mood swings.

What kinds of problems does therapy help with?

Like many other mental health disorders, BPD is heavily influenced by stress; therapy provides skills for coping with stressors of all kinds. Therapy is extremely important for helping individuals identify the situations that may trigger mood switching, so that mood swings can be prevented. Therapy may especially target recognition of the early stages of mood change so that they can be managed. In addition, therapy helps patients deal with the significant amount of turbulence the disorder can create in relationships and in work life.

What is the goal of therapy for bipolar disorder?

Therapy helps patients set up their lives to maintain stability so that their mood isn’t constantly threatened by daily events. Perhaps the first task of therapy is to educate people about the nature of the disorder. At the same time, a primary goal of therapy is to enhance adherence to drug treatment. Extended periods of mood stability can prompt patients to discontinue medication, triggering relapse, while the early phases of manic episodes can feel so energizing that patients stop medication, ushering in full-blown mania and the altered self-perception that can lead to destructive behaviors. Another major goal of therapy is to understand one’s mood patterns so as to minimize both the frequency and intensity of mood cycling.
