My favorite all-time bumper sticker: Don't Believe Everything You Think! Obviously, everyone has problems in life, but both sages and scientists have discovered that how we think about our problems is a crucial variable in whether we grow through difficulties (past or present), or get mired in difficult emotions and unhelpful behavior patterns. While we all have unique histories and personalities, what leads to healing and change generally applies to all of us. But more than ever, we are living on "autopilot," and just trying to keep up. All the while, our busy minds provide a running commentary, often full of fear and criticism.

My hope is that our work together can reignite those things that bring you the most joy and life. Often this process involves working through the impact of loss, pain, or trauma in a safe and supportive therapeutic relationship. I work extensively with women and members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and much of my experience centers around religious trauma and spiritual wounding. My work is informed by humanistic and existential perspectives of psychotherapy, and I often incorporate the use of mindfulness techniques. I am also trained in a number of evidence-based clinical treatments including IFS, ACT, and EMDR.

Life assures us struggle, hardships, grief, and loss, but these things don't have to be the end of our story. They can be our call to action. I want to help you develop the tools you need to create a rich, full, and healthy life of your own design. One where you not only meet your goals but enjoy the process. A diagnosis, a major life change, an experience of abuse or trauma, an identity outside the social norms we find ourselves in; these are not our limitations, they're just aspects of our starting point.

Different adversities attempt to diminish our belief that this is true. I am a therapist whose focus centers on client self-empowerment and determination. My passion is working with individuals and groups to help them ritualize peace by creating coping mechanisms to face challenges and achieve goals. You feel like a fraud as a professional, looking like you have it together but really it feels like it’s all falling apart. You’re a rockstar at everything you teach others, a high achiever, successful in your field. But, if others were to see what was really happening behind closed doors, they would see your struggle to put your own words into action. You give to others, draining yourself until you have nothing left to give. Self-care is a great theory if you could only find the time. You know there’s another way but you’re not quite sure how to get there on your own. You know therapy would help but it’s difficult to make it fit.

The pace of modern life, its demands and technology, can occasionally overwhelm the most courageous and determined human being, and a sensitive soul can become even more easily derailed. Add to that our habituated tendency to numb our feeling selves and disassociate from our bodies, and it is no wonder so many of us feel out of alignment with our natural freedom, self-expression, creativity and joy. My work is about helping you return to this original state. The method? A context and relationship that value and invite embodied, sacred conversation to guide us home to our truest and highest nature.

As a Registered Play Therapist and a Licensed Professional Counselor, I use play therapy tools to develop the heart, mind and soul of children. After working with children and families in private practice and in school settings for many years, my passion is to empower my clients through play. Through their natural language, play, children can express their emotions and start to heal. I specialize in working with children ages 4 years to 12 years but can work with all ages and adults. Common issues I treat are: trauma, fear, anxiety, anger, loss and grief, ADHD, change in their families, and social anxiety, various school issues.

Who we were (or who we had to be) in the past doesn’t always match who we are now. We grow; we change; we develop our own ideas about the world and ourselves. And sometimes that causes us to feel stuck. We may wonder, is this what change is supposed to feel like? Where are we supposed to go from here? How do we make sense of values, behaviors, or even people when they don’t match up with how we want to live now? That confusion can be lonely. You’re not alone. We all ask ourselves these questions at some point. Whether you’re experiencing this “stuckness” for the first time or the tenth, I want to help you find your way back to you.

You are a busy professional and you have arrived. For years, you’ve been planning and plotting your path and you are now well on your way. And, something feels just a bit off. Like, “wasn’t I supposed to be happy and content -or something?” For some reason, life is not feeling as full and rich as you’d pictured, and all the research on how to make things better thus far, has not yielded the desired results! Despite checking all the boxes (like, every last damn one), you are still left feeling more anxious, stressed, or depressed than you’d like. Why do things on the inside that don’t match what’s happening in your life?

I help individuals who may feel disconnected from their true selves, showing up as depression, anxiety, or a feeling of being unfulfilled. I help clients come back home to themselves, to their own dreams for their lives, to their own values, to their own feelings, and to their most aligned path for their relationships, careers, physical health, and joy. Clients usually experience very quick transformations with this work and express a feeling of internal wholeness and peace, as well as clarity about their way forward. Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
