I've focused my practice on substance use issues and addictive problems in people lives. For years I worked with women in eating disorders treatment utilizing an addictions model. Later I focused on men, and substance use disorders. Problems can stem from using drugs as an unproductive coping skill to a deeper more physiologically based problem. Our first job together is to find what your specific problem looks like and then find a way forward that's suited to your needs. In addition I also offer services evaluating clients for Substance Use Disorders in Family Law and Criminal cases.
We too often think of treating substance use problems as a one-size-fits-all approach. I've found this isn't productive. For some people twelve-step programs work brilliantly, for others, not at all. This effort is based on understanding and evaluating each individuals characteristic issues, and strengths.
My graduate work was done at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health where I received a fellowship to study alcoholism program planning. My path through this field and my practice has been unique in many ways. I've included a wider array of models and paradigms in working with people.

Finding Balance in Life
A group for men and women looking at deep strategies for creating balance in our lives. All the minutia, the hurry, the news, the work, the commute take pieces of us all day long leaving us depleted and at times, burned out. Balance in life involves all aspects of ourselves: thinking-feeling-seeing-acting. This is the model I use in this group. We look at our cognition and our emotion, we look at our perceptions and our actions. We take it from there. This is an ongoing group that will meet Wednesdays at noon.
