I am a licensed clinical social worker with over 25 years experience in the area of adult mental health. My approach to therapy emphasizes a genuine presence and warmth. I believe an authentic bond between client and therapist must be present before theory or technique can be effective. I believe our physical and social environment profoundly impact and shape our individual experiences of anxiety, depression and grief, and will work to honor this in the healing process. I I have interest and experience in grief work, persistent anxiety/depression, stress reduction and helping with life transitions.
I draw from theories that recognize the role of the unconscious in how relationships are formed and in behavior. In my work with clients, I incorporate humor, spirituality and creativity, and use techniques that increase our awareness of mind/body interactions and how thoughts impact our emotional and physical health.
I am interested in the practice of Mindfulness, whereby a person is intentionally aware of their thoughts in the present moment, non-judgmentally. Being mindful creates awareness of thought patterns and habits that have become self-defeating, and allows us to choose healthier responses to stress, anxiety, and depression.
