As a dual diagnosis/co-occurring psychotherapist, (licensed mental health counselor and licensed substance use disorder professional) my goal is to help you uncover your true potential and lead a life that is worth celebrating. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges. By applying specific therapeutic approaches and techniques, we will unearth long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life and incorporate healthy coping skills.

Dr. Chase is a licensed mental health counselor in Washington. She has been a licensed clinical psychologist in Brazil for almost 30 years. She has well over 20,000 hours of counseling practice with an emphasis in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). To better understand the laws in the U.S. she also obtained a Master's in Counseling in the U.S. and graduated with Highest Distinction. Her approach to counseling is eclectic, and she does not confine her counseling skills solely to CBT; rather, she employs numerous counseling theories to help her clients achieve their goals. She looks forward to working with you.

A Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, called Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT) is my approach.
If what you are doing with your life and relationships only results in a mess, you can learn to change all that to your satisfaction. I have the skills and experience to teach and support you in the process. The process involves learning who you are (how you feel, what your needs are), how to expose and change self beliefs that are misdirecting your life, how to put words to it all, and finally learn how to express yourself in a meaningful, constructive way to others. Clients tell me how much they appreciate their new self-understanding and relationship skills.

I love working with a diversity of populations. My ideal client has some insight into what he/she is struggling with and a willingness to open up about their pain. I understand that trusting a therapist can be frighting, especially for those who have a history of painful relationships. I am client centered and will work at your pace with the understanding that as we build trust I will start to challenge thoughts and behaviors that are keeping you from meeting your goals.

I have spent over 2 decades working with a wide variety of people using primarily cognitive/behavioral approaches.
My clients come into therapy me with a wide range of issues often related to anxiety, depression, family stress, interpersonal conflicts, work/life balance stresses, parenting concerns, aging stresses, and a host of other concerns. Some individuals just need to talk their issues out for a few sessions. Others are seeking someone to walk through a longer period of time with them to address long-term, ongoing issues. Life comes with many challenges. Sometimes it is difficult to see the way through those challenges. I believe that all of us have the power to meet and overcome the challenges we face.

Courage is being scared to death, but saddling up anyways.- John Wayne Counseling can be terrifying. You may have tried counseling before and felt like it didn't work or heard about someone else's bad experience. I believe that there is no cookie-cutter way of providing therapy and no client is the same. My ideal client is one who is willing to do the work during and in between sessions. I will challenge you, make you cry, make you laugh and empower you throughout your journey of healing and building the confidence in yourself.

Behavioral Issues Therapists

What happens in therapy for behavioral issues?

No matter the type of therapy, individuals form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is often therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Individuals learn to identify situations that are especially troublesome for them and acquire new patterns of thinking and behaving. In therapy for ADHD, one of the most common behavior issues for children, individuals learn how to improve frustration tolerance, control impulsivity, manage attentional focus, and gain skills of self-organisation.

What therapy types help with behavioral issues?

Many types of therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Perhaps best-known and most widely tested is cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT), in which individuals learn new behavioral strategies and curb reactivity to frustrating or distressing situations that trigger disruptive behaviour. Anger, anxiety, mood disorders, impulse control problems are commonly addressed in CBT. Family therapy or parent management training is often helpful to reduce parent-child conflict and behavioral difficulties at home.

How long does therapy last for behavioral issues?

Among popular approaches to treating behavioral concerns, CBT is considered a short-term therapy intended to be administered in 15 to 20 weekly sessions. Parent training in behavior management, often used when the underlying cause of behavior issues is ADHD in children under 12, usually occurs in weekly sessions for 8 to 16 weeks. When behavioral issues stem from persistent aggression or defiance, therapy may last for months, and usually targets both children and their parents.

How effective is therapy for behavior issues?

Studies show that therapy for behavior issues in children is highly effective and may prevent the development of antisocial behavior later in life. Family intervention—parent management training or family therapy, both of which involve parents and children together—is considered most effective, notably for children under age 12 who persistently engage in aggressive, defiant, rule-breaking or other disruptive behavior. Whether provided alone or in combination with medication, CBT is highly effective in helping people regulate their emotions, and for people with ADHD, it addresses impulsiveness, hyperactivity and attentional focus.
