I am a caring, evidence-based, and holistic (consideration of the whole) therapist looking forward to challenging cases from people needing my expertise. Making use of a wide variety of therapies, from verbal to non-verbal, devoting much time on each of the select cases I take, and engaging in colleague consultations, I am often able to help with even the most challenging of issues. I also see children, doing family therapy even for the toughest kids. You'll see the difference family support makes, rather than my just trying to "fix the kid".
*******Please see the "Groups" section about the Avoidance & Procrastination group.****** I often begin with symptom-focused behavioral counseling to attempt rapid symptom improvement. When people stay beyond that brief initial period of basic counseling, we move into long-term psychodynamic psychotherapy to find and remedy the problem's root cause.
I encourage people to call me and we can talk about what your particular issues are and how I will be able to help you out. Or, if there is something I can't help you with, I can help you find a regional expert for your issue. *Email preferred. Calls returned only if a clinician has an opening for your needs.

Avoidance: Anxiety, Depression, &/or LGBTQ+ Topics

The only group of its kind in the region, this group's open to nice people who are caring about others, but find it difficult to ensure their own needs are met. You may avoid/procrastinate on things to do to overcome any one or more of: anxiety, depression, or situations around LGBTQ+* topics. At an affordable $135 every two weeks, group members consistently remark of its value and accept that it is okay to invest in themselves. *Note: You don't need to be anxious/depressed/LGBTQ+ to join, but must be comfortable around those subjects.

Professional Connections

I recommend Sam for complex cases, especially involving relationship difficulties. He purposely maintains a small case-load so as to have more time to devote to those he chooses to see.

Sam Schaperow, MSMFT, LMFT is focused very strongly on quality over quantity, and can maintain a small case-load by being out-of-network with insurance panels. He is also known as our area's most thorough psychiatric diagnostician, which means understanding what the diagnosis is instead of getting a sense of it from a session or so of assessment. For example, inattention can be a part of many mental disorders, including ADD, depression, anxiety, bereavement, etc. He takes the time and energy to figure out the accurate diagnosis so that self-understanding and treatment can be tailored to what's really going on. He also has thorough and formal training in marriage and family therapy, giving him an edge over most therapists who do such therapies without any formal training in them.
