I am a psychologist candidate who provides individual psychotherapy and to adolescents and adults. Some areas of specialization I have are working with eating disorders, general issues with food and body image, the LGBTQ+ community, women's issues, depression, and anxiety. I consider the impact of systemic oppression on individuals’ mental health, in order to contextualize a client’s issues. I am a strong supporter of body positivity, and am a Health at Every Size (HAES) clinician.

I have several passions: 1) I help women struggling with depression and self esteem, especially as they age, to find meaning in their lives. 2) I help parents raise kids who will want to come home for Thanksgiving...and you'll want to see them. 3) I help parents who have made a decision not to work to be full-time stay-at-home parents feel confident and validated in their choice. There is no more important work than successfully raising the next generation. 4) I help seniors dealing with aging issues, depression, and addictions. 5) I help all adults dealing with addictions, depression, and anxiety.

New Clients WELCOME (April 2024): Are you a highly sensitive person who is feeling overwhelmed & uncomfortable in your own skin? You’ve always felt a bit different from others. In order to fit in, you’ve learned to mask your true self — your deepest emotions & thoughts, your natural ways of speaking & moving. You’re so used to the mask, you’re not sure who the real you is. After being told many times that you’re “too sensitive,” you don't know how to trust yourself. There are painful experiences that you know you need to process. You’re ready to heal — truly heal — and live a more empowered life. I would like to support you.

It's not easy to seek help for your child. I've been there. I've been a psychologist for 28 years, but I've been a parent for 24, and counting. As a child and family psychologist, I help young families develop skills and routines to support healthy relationships for years to come. Play therapy allows children to integrate difficult experiences, and move past the stuck points in which they (and their parents) often find themselves. And it even works to do it virtually!

I enjoy helping clients understand themselves, maybe for the first time. We are presented with so many ideas, thoughts and noise that it can be hard to find our own voice and our own way. I work with clients who are seeking greater self-understanding, connection and empowerment in their lives. I can help you experience more personal clarity and congruence while also experiencing greater richness in life. I've also studied spirituality and have found that it has added more more depth to my life and my work as a therapist; I have experience with Buddhism, the Diamond Approach and shamanism.

Is your kiddo lacking confidence, overwhelmed by their emotions, yet you know deep inside there is a magical human just waiting to be discovered? I work with children who are highly intellectual, empathic, and feeling beings who oftentimes have been targeted by schools, peers, and teachers as being the "problem." The truth is they are not the problem and you know this, but yet their everyday functioning is being hindered. Getting to school or having play dates often seems like more of a challenge for you than the other families you know.

Are you struggling with anxiety, depression, or residual symptoms of a traumatic experience? Do you find yourself using substances or other harmful coping strategies to make it through the day? Do your emotions seem to overwhelm and guide your day-to-day interactions? Are your relationships with others stressful and unfulfilling? These can be debilitating issues that can hinder our ability to move through life with ease, serenity, and peace. I believe that these struggles are not life sentences, and growth and self-actualization can be achieved through cognitive, emotional, and behavioral changes.

True transformational healing happens at the level of the soul. Traditional counseling focuses on fixing faulty thinking. Rather, let's uncover the negative unconscious beliefs about yourself that motivate this thinking. It is the quality of the relationship that you have with yourself that will ultimately determine how quickly you can manifest what you love.

I am an Ackerman trained family therapist and graduate of NYU, practicing individual, family, couple, and support group psychotherapy. I specialize in relationships, intimacy, illness, trauma, and loss. My therapeutic work w/clients focuses on exploring how family, religion, and cultures of origin influence how one learns to adapt in the world, both independently and when exploring new areas of intimacy and connection. I believe in the importance of my own self-awareness, acknowledging that the work in understanding one’s relationship to privilege regarding ethnicity, color, and other intersectional identities are a lifelong study.

In my experience, health comes from getting to know ourselves deeply and learning to care for ourselves well. My practice is oriented around supporting you to learn and befriend the depth, richness, and gifts inside you. In my years of working with people, I have not met a single individual who does not contain a vibrant inner world of wisdom and well-being. Sometimes we just need warm support to learn how to access it. Clients tell me that our work together exposes them to the possibility of companioning and caring for themselves and others in a way they had not conceived as possible.

You really want to enjoy life but everything seems daunting. You feel stuck, overwhelmed and confused. Life can be challenging but you don't have to go through this alone. My first aim in therapy is to create a space where you feel safe and heard. Together we embark on a journey of greater insight to understand what is holding you back and to create possibilities for change. I see therapy as a collaborative process: I bring my skills and experience, and you bring your whole self, your strengths and vulnerabilities, your fears and desires. My goal is to help you live a full and meaningful life in a way that feels true to YOU.

How can I find a therapist in Boulder?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
