About
People enter therapy looking for results and relief. I like to identify issues quickly and focus on alleviating distress. In addition to couples counseling and general practice with individuals, I run support groups for adoptive parents. Parenting is a challenge. Adoptive parenting has additional challenges. My groups offer a safe space to explore issues and receive support. I take great pleasure in engaging people and offering an environment that allows people to arrive at unique solutions to their lives. I work with individuals, couples and groups.
My expertise includes relationships and adoptive parenting. In addition to adoption support groups, I specialize in working with couples to resolve differences and move forward with their lives and relationships.
My practice is informed by training in many different modalities including Object Relations and Relational psychodynamic thinking, Marriage and Family Systems Theory, and Kinetic Awareness.
This diversity gives me the ability to work flexibly and creatively, according to the needs of the client.

Barbara Freedgood's Groups
Groups for Parents of Adopted Children
In my work with people touched by adoption I create a safe environment to air thoughts and feelings that arise parenting adopted children. In thinking about adoption and the issues parents and children are faced with, consideration for the developmental level of the child informs decisions about how to deal with their questions and needs. There is often nothing greater than the power of support from those with shared experience. A safe, non-judgmental space to be truthful, candid and understood helps to facilitate understanding and support for the parents of adopted children. Supported parents create supported children.
