Hi, I am Barb and have been a clinical social worker for over 25 years. I currently hold a Missouri license but have lived in California for the last 6 years to be closer to family.
My primary approach to therapy is Client Centered with the goal of truly understanding a client's feelings and life experience. This approach emphasizes understanding the client as they see themselves and to explore what moving forward will look like. This approach, along with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, is a good combination for many.
I have a casual style which works for most, but not everyone. I use humor where possible to create a comfortable space. I try to pace myself with what the client is ready to work on - but will point out areas that may help in the future. I want it to feel like a partnership as we move forward.
